What do you make of this? **UPDATE - WED. NIGHT**

For those that don't know, we had some major damage to our house during one of the storms we had in March. Our roof blew off and our home flooded from the attic down to the first floor.

Through our insurance company, we had a water mitigation team come in and dry out the house as best as they could with industrial strength dehumidifiers, heaters and fans.

Fast forward to yesterday... I come home from work and find a hand-written note in our mailbox from the lead guy of the team that dealt with the dry-out. It pretty much said that he needed to talk to my DH and I regarding the work that he did and he would prefer it if the company he works for DOES NOT know that he contacted us. He left us his cell # for us to call him.

DH is adamantly opposed to calling him, thinking that he (the guy) might be in the middle of a lawsuit or something with the company and he doesn't want to get us involved.

What would you think about this note? Would you call the guy? Would you ignore it? I have to admit, my curiosity is getting the better of me....

DH called him this afternoon (good boy! Chat Icon ) Apparently the company is trying to screw this guy on the hours upon hours he worked in overtime during those March storms. He basically wanted to know if we had gotten a detailed receipt from the company (we didn't - they direct-billed our insurance company) and if so, could he have a copy of it. I feel so badly for this guy. I will admit, I thought the worst and I'm happy that it doesn't directly involve us.

Thanks for all of the advice! Chat Icon

Re: What do you make of this?

hmmm...I would be curious too but it does sound pretty shady. If all the work is done and you have no other reason to contact this guy, I would just pretend like you never got the note. I think your DH has a point about not getting involved.

Re: What do you make of this?

I would have to call - the curiosity would kill me.

From the way the note is worded, it sounds like there's something he wants you to know about, that the company does not want you to know: like they made some sort of mistake and the company is covering it up...

I don't see how it could hurt to call him back - now *I* need to know Chat Icon

Re: What do you make of this?

I would call him to at least hear him out and if it sounds shady then, cut off any further contact. I also wouldnt contact your insurance company and get in the middle.

I agree. I would be curious to know if there was something wrong with my house that someone wasn't telling me.

I would call.

Let him speak and get out what he needs to say, I wouldnt say much at all.

Then digest what he told you and decide what you want to do about it or just drop it.

I would call- I'm too nosey Chat Icon

It might be something simple like he wants a recommendation because he is striking out on his own... if it turns out to be something else, just tell him you have to consult with your attorney and dont call back.

This is my train of thought as well. God forbid something is wrong with the way they did things, or if one of their machines was found to be faulty and spewed toxic exhaust or something... This is my HOME. What if something wasn't done properly and mold is growing in my walls? What if he has inside info on something the company did and wants to give us a heads up?

Now - what do I do if he stops by again and DH isn't home? Chat Icon

I wouldn't answer the door. Let your DH call him and hear him out...

Re: What do you make of this?

I would have to call him--especially if I had a child. What if they uncovered a major mold problem they decided not to tell you about?? This is your HOME and you have to protect it and your family.

If you don't want to get in the middle of anything, maybe call from a public phone so it can't be traced back that you contacted him. Have him say what he has to say, and don't say much on your end.

Re: What do you make of this?

I agree with everyone else. I don't see the harm in speaking with him, since he approached you. I wouldn't necessarily act or react on anything he said, but definitely get whatever info he wants to give.

Even if there is a lawsuit going on, you can honestly say that he contacted you, and you called him back. You never acted on what he said, or did anything based on what he told you. You assumed he was asking you to give a recommendation or something.

If you are worried about him stopping by, you have his cell #, so you can call him before he comes over, and when you are comfortable calling him.

Calling a person who asks you to call them is not going to get you in trouble.

You def need to find out. Def call. It's your home. See what he says and take it from there.

same here - I would call him but I would contact the company anyway - maybe they did something wrong and are trying to cover it up under the table...

I agree 110%

so many corners could have been cut that can you use harm later- I would rather know now while the case is still open with the insurace company- then in 3 years when you figure it out n your own

Re: What do you make of this?

i would 100% call him, NOT the company. find out what he has to say and go from there.

i feel like he's trying to warn you of something. that's my gut reaction.
