People who live in Montauk, etc...where do they work??

I know this is a silly question.

Whether I drive out to Montauk or on the North Fork and go into East Marion, etc...I always wonder where people work!

It seems so far to work in the city, but do people really do such a long commute?

I know there are places to work out east, but I'm always curious. It's like a whole other world out there! (which I love)

I've wondered the same thing. I'd imagine most people who live that far east must work in Suffolk. I can't imagine commuting to the city or even Nassau from that far, although I guess some people might.

My parents live out there. My stepdad is retired but is now an emt. My mom has a part time job at a local store.

People work in retail stores and in the restaurants. People also commute to neighboring towns.

My old boss, I remember him saying his brother lived out there and he commuted to the city..way to long for me!

One of my brothers coworkers does. He works in Queens and Brooklyn. On Fridays he RUNS out of there ASAP to try and beat traffic.

Hah I live in Mattituck I dont work! I used to live in Sag Harbor. lol We are moving to Eastport soon more options of course but not sure if I will work.

I have a son with Autism and daughter with adhd and full time school is around the corner for my son.

My husband owns a company out here. I guess hospitals and schools if your educated otherwise resturnts etc.

Many people work in construction, real estate or own their own business possibly?

I live in Hampton Bays. Everyone I know has a local job, I teach in Bridgehampton and DH works at a golf course in Southampton. Southampton and East Hampton both have town employees, police, lawyers, insurance companies, newspapers, just like any other town. Many people are employed by Southampton hospital as well. We also have friends that own restaurants and painting companies.

I'm in Manorville...while not as far out as Montauk or the Hamptons...it's still a pain in the butt to commute everyday to Commack like I currently do.

I serviced Montauk for many years. The people are wonderful. In Montauk, most are people are local and run or work in local business which drive the economy from St. Patricks day until Columbus day.

It is truly one of Long Islands best gems.

We live in Ridge but are moving to Southampton soon, my DH is a builder, his office is in Bridgehampton. I will run my consulting firm fulltime & I'll need to travel into Nassau a few times a week at off peak times. I have a Prius that allows me to utilize the HOV lane which makes a tremendous difference except for Friday afternoons in the Summer. There are Jittneys for commuters from the North & South forks, some of DH's clients have jobs in the city so they live there during the week while their families stay in the hamptons full time.
Most of our friends that live East of the canal own businesses, work in trades or in the restaurant/hospitality industry out there. We have friends that move out of their home in the summer months & in with family so they can rent their house for the season $$$, its a big part of their yearly income.
My cousin & her husband raised their 3 kids in Southold, my cousin works in a local dental office, her husband was the head caretaker on a big estate. They NEVER drove west of Riverhead for anything.

I live in Mattituck. I'm a SAHM and DH works from home. He drives into the city for meetings about 3 days a month.
