LP problems
Hello everyone,
I have a question for you girls who have a problem with their lp's.
I think I am having problems with my lp. Mine is around 10 or 11 days, but I spot for a day or so before. So I am going to the dr tomorrow (obgyn) to have a talk with her.
If you have an lp problem. How did they diagnose it and how did they treat it?
Just curious. I am nervous the dr is gonna be like you have only been trying for 6 months and you have a baby already. So wait a little more.
Thoughts????

Re: LP problems
im not totally familiar with LPD, but my guess is that you would be put on progesterone during the 2WW. my LP is normally 10 days with some spotting also. i already see an RE for PCOS so im always on progesterone anyway, but i think thats how it would be treated.
i use crinone which is a gel, but i have also used the suppositories. i prefer the gel, but neither of them are tons of fun to have to use - both are inserted vaginally .

Re: LP problems
I had a luteal phase defect and they treated it with Clomid. My LP lengthened by 2 days.

you use progesterone only after you O so it doesnt have anything to do with when you O.
it can extend your LP though so yes, it could make your cycle longer.

Re: LP problems
I had a 9-10 day LP (with spotting starting on 8dpo), then 10-11 and after 9 months, I got my BFP! My dr wanted my LP to be at a minimum 12 days, however, he said it was still possible to get pregnant with a 10-11 day LP. He thought my LP issues were an after effect of BCP. I started taking extra Vitamin B6 immediately, but I don't really feel like it did much. He offered to treat it with clomid (the idea being to strengthen the corpus luteum, so it will produce more progesterone on its own) or for me to wait it out a little longer.
I chose the latter, but took matters into my own hands and did some research on herbal supplements. I took royal jelly, vitex, and drank red raspberry leaf tea. I also ate very clean, cut out alcohol and coffee, and cut back on my high intensity workouts. It sounds drastic, but within 2 months of doing this, I got my BFP. I can't help but feel my healthy regiment contributed to getting pregnant. I should mention that I told my dr everything I was doing and he was on board.
If you suspect an LPD, your dr will start you off with blood work. A lot of dr's only test progesterone 7 days after ovulation. My dr. tested it every other day for much of the 2WW. I would urge people to ask for this. My levels were perfect at 7 dpo, but they were plummeting right after that, causing me to spot and then get AF too soon. The dr. wouldn't have known this if he just looked at 7dpo.
It's basically a personal choice which route you want to take to treat, but just do your research either way. Both medical drugs and herbs can do more harm then good if not taken properly.

Re: LP problems
I went to the dr today. My gyno said that since it has only been 6 months and I already have a child that there is no reason to be concerned. She said a 10/11 day lp is fine. She also said the spotting is nothing to be concerned with it is normal for some people.
She told me to bd only every other day as that is enough. Since I have hypothyroidism, I should get my thyroid checked.
She said if I am not pregnant by December (which would be year) then she will start testing.
I have a quick question Maybbaby21. I drink tea all the time so I was thinking instead of drinking my normal decaf tea, maybe I should just drink the red raspberry leaf tea. What do you think?
Thanks all for all your info. She did help me feel better. I guess I am just impatient since I got pregnant so quickly with my first. I got pregnant first time off the pill.
As they say Patience is a Virtue! We will keep on bding. My husband is thrilled. Haha!

very helpful post , thank you
i am also off bcp after being on for almost 13 years (since high school!)
So that would explain my lp issues most likely

I say it can't hurt to try the Red Raspberry Leaf tea (just get the herbal kind sold at health food stores, not the red rasp they sell at reg food stores). I drank 2-3 cups a day. It's supposed to strengthen the uterine lining and if you have an LPD, the uterine lining starts to break down sooner than you'd want, so that's why the tea might help.
Good luck! I hope you don't have to wait a full year and it happens for you sooner. There's really good info about herbal supplements and LPDs in the book "Making Babies: A Three Month Program." It's written by an RE and a Chinese medicine practitioner, so it's a nice blend of both worlds.
