can you use HE detergent in a regular washing machine?
my darling husband went to BJ's and bought a massive thing of detergent. all would be fine except that he bought HE detergent and we have a regular washer.
the expense and time going to BJs to exchange it isn't worth it if we can use it in the washer, but i won't take any chances of ruining it. anyone know what the difference is? does it matter?

i am not sure, but i use non he detergent in my parents he machine. he detergent is more expensive. i just use less of it.

From Tide.com: "Our HE detergent is designed especially for HE washing machines - both front and top loading. If you have a non-HE washing machine (which is usually top-loading only), you can use HE detergent but it's not necessary. It won't harm the machine but you'll notice less suds."

I've done it and noticed that the HE detergent was more "watery" if that makes sense... I definitely prefer regular detergent.
And my DH was the one who came home with it too!

I did the same thing recently and just noticed that it was HE the other day. I bought the huge bottle of ERA at BJS and have been using it in my regular machine.
I don't think it makes much of a difference though.
