At what point?
Did you decide that maybe you needed some help?
I'm trying to figure out at what point I should be concerned that we might need a little help TTC. I have regular cycles and have never been on BC but I just feel like something is off.
TIA and lots of

Re: At what point?
How long have you been trying?
Typically they say for couples below 30 should try for 1 year.... and above 30 should try for 6 months before seeking help.
That said.. if you have reason to suspect there is a problem, there's no reason to wait it out!! My situation is a little different because I knew I had problems over 10 years ago!!
This stuff could be tricky..... I would first try bringing it up to your ob/gyn and seeing what they say!! I think that's usually the first step!!

ITA DH takes a LOT of meds for ulcerative colitis, so after 6 months of TTCing I asked my Ob/Gyn if we should be concerned. I'm 31. She sent us for tests (HSG for me, SA for him) and now because of his results, we are off to see an RE this week.
If you think something is up, don't hesitate to ask your Dr. questions!

Re: At what point?
Most Dr's and insurance company want you to try for a year with no results before you seek help. (Unless you have issues like PCOS, etc)
There are many things your OB can do to check a few things out: HSG, blood work, post coital and DH can go in for an SA.
I think the SA is the least invasive test that can bring back the most results. But make sure they do a FULL test. We have been trying for 2 1/2 years. I thought I would have no problem, and sent DH for an SA with a urologist. The results we got were: It's fine. I was pizzed, no numbers, percentages, etc. Well, it turns out that his count is GREAT, but his morphology is less than 3%. The chances of us getting PG w/o intervention is super low.
Good Luck

Re: At what point?
I rec that if yoiu feel that something is off to go see an RE. I knew i was having some issues and my OB was comfortable treating me however I am so glad I went to the RE.
I was worried that the Re would feel like i didnt "belong" there and I was just being overally worried but it turns out...that the med my dr wanted to put me on may not solve my issue and after my OB reviewed my husbands SA she said it was ok. However when we saw Dr. B he said that was not the case and is sending my husband for more testing.
So if your gut feeling is to go and your insurance will cover it I say GO!

I feel like I've wasted a lot of time because I didn't want to admit we had a problem.... It took me a year and a half to finally go to an RE. I wish I would have gone a lot sooner

Re: At what point?
I knew we were going to need help after I came off of BCP. I got my first non-bcp period normally and then not again for almost 4 months.
I was in denial and terrified and pushed off getting real help for a year.

The exact same for me. If your insurance covers it, get the preliminary testing done. Unfortunatly, you won't know if something is wrong, till you try. All our testing came back FINE and here we are almost 2 years later still trying. Of course it is a personal choice. ...but my advice, don't waste more time.

Re: At what point?
To be honest, I only tried for a few months before having a "feeling" like something wasnt right. I decided to see my OB and discuss my concerns...he ran a few tests and sent me to an RE. Thank god I only waited a few months because it turned out it took IVF for us to finally get pregnant. Personally, I think its never too soon to get some basic testing done...like bloodwork, semen analysis, and maybe an HSG. Feel free to send me FM mail if you want more info.
Best of luck to you!

Re: At what point?
You may want to chart for a month or two so that you have some information to work with. Are you "feeling" something is wrong because of a medical issue or because you are nervous that it is taking a "while"? It can take more than a few months to get pregnant...of course, in your early 20's you are worried about getting pregnant and then one day you find out it is actually not all that easy LOL.

Re: At what point?
I think you should always go with your gut feeling, if you think something is off and you have been ttc for a while I would go ahead and call an RE. It can't hurt to get some tests done and get an opinion.

Re: At what point?
Thanks girls. We have been not trying not to since September. From that point until January I used digital OPK's all but one month and I'd say at least 3-4 months we had pretty good timing BD wise although I wasn't scheduling it. Since Feb we were very much actively trying and I'm now on my second month of CBEFM. I'm very regular and have always had a positive reading so I am hoping that I am ovulating. I made an appt with my OB/GYN for the end of May for a regular exam. That's 2 more cycles. If nothing by then, I think I'm going to ask him what our next step is. I know it takes time and patience but I've never had any period related issues (other than them being very heavy) and back in September when I went to the doctor for a pre-TTC consult, he did an internal sono and said he doesn't see any reason why I shouldn't be able to get pregnant. I just can't stop myself from worrying. I appreciate all of your input.

Re: At what point?
I am in the same place you are ... wondering when/if we need to see someone else. I too have regular cycles and have never been on BCP. We had a CP 2 months ago and since then my cycle has been off. I went for an HSG this past cycle. This cycle I am going to go to get progesterone levels checked since I had a short LP this month (12 days). DH has been difficult in motivating to get an SA.
Good luck to you guys.

Good Luck to you too! I didn't realize 12 days was a short LP. I thought anything above 10 was good. Mine is 13 so I wonder if that could be a problem

Re: At what point?
I was over 35 when we started TTC, after 6 months of no dice, we went to my OB, tried for 3 months with his help and then I asked for an HSG. It was at the HSG, when the doctor couldn't get the catheter in that I learned that I had cervical stenosis. Upon returning to my OB, he referred me to an RE and immediately after my first exam, I had procedures scheduled to address the stenosis and we were on our way.

Re: At what point?
I definetly waited too long before I went to and RE. We have been trying since 5/08 and my OB suggested to start right away. I wasnt ready to accept there was a problem. After all tests there isnt anything obvious yet but its comforting to know that there is a plan. Good luck to you.

Well, I don't really know what to think about a shorter than 14 day LP. My stupid doctor said "everyone's is 14 days." (The one that also told me I was "probably never pregnant" when I went in after 3 BFP's on 3 different days then got AF).
Did your doctor suggest DH go for a SA??

Hmmm. I think 14 is the norm but def not what everyone has. My doctor said an SA would be the first step after at least 6 months of TTC. I will def address that when I go for my annual if I'm not PG by then
