what is everyone doing for childcare?
Once the baby is born are you putting the baby in a school or a family/friends home? I am so indecisive on this. Also, how long is typical to be out of work? I am thinking 8 weeks but I dont know if I am cutting it short.

Re: what is everyone doing for childcare?
I am thinking of having someone come to the house. I don't want to use any of the big childcare centers and would prefer not to have to have to take the baby somewhere in the morning. I am hoping to find someone that can start about 1 month before I go back to work. My sister used an agency so I will look into that.

Re: what is everyone doing for childcare?
I only work a couple of hours a day, so my mom and MIL will share babysitting duties.

Re: what is everyone doing for childcare?
I get 4-6 weeks, then DH will take over for several months. After that it's P/T daycare and my mom and possibly MIL (although they won't know this until tomorrow).

Re: what is everyone doing for childcare?
i'll either be a SAHM or we'll find a nanny or small (3-4 kids) in-house arrangement. i do not wish to place my little one in daycare right away, and family is not local. things are still up in the air as DH will attempt a job move once is born...

Re: what is everyone doing for childcare?
We are using a place highly recommended by my best friend - her 2 kids go there (ages 5 yrs and 9 mos) in Huntington. Its run out of a home by a former teacher and the place is great. Katie will go there full time when I return to work. She will be about 6 weeks old.

Re: what is everyone doing for childcare?
We hope to try to have me be a SAHM, but if not we have looked into P/T daycare and I will work 2 or 3 days per week.

Re: what is everyone doing for childcare?
So worried about this right now...was going to have my dad since he is retired watch her but he is up there in years and the rest of the family doesn't think it is a good idea, even though my dad said he would do it.
So we were kinda counting on him, now I don't know...starting to ask around the area to see if there is any in home care.

Re: what is everyone doing for childcare?
We found several nice daycare centers by us but it was an easy decision- we really fell in love with one of the places. The caregivers seemed wonderful and the activities are all great for development & socialization. I'm actually pretty excited about it! It is a center, but not a chain. There were about 12 infants there, and lots of older kids- split up by age & development. It will certainly make going back to work much easier since I feel so confident with our choice. The baby will be just under 6 months when I go back. DH will having morning drop off around 7:15 & I'll pick up in the afternoon around 3:45.
I didn't consider in-home care or a nanny- neither was the right choice for us.

May I ask what agency your sister used? i've wondered how you go about finding a nanny and it seems like if you don't already know someone you've got to use some kind of an agency.

Re: what is everyone doing for childcare?
As it stands right now, I will stay home for 3 months then when I go back to work, I'll need day care 3 days a week. My Mom will take one day and a friend the other two.
If we move off the Island, I'll be a SAHM.

this is what we are doing. My parents are still young and have their own mortgage and kids at home. so they are out. My commute is long and I would need late hour daycare, so I am moving, staying at home, and hoping we adjust as a one income family.
