I hope this family works out for you and Leo. Many hugs for both of you. It sounds like you are doing the best you can in a terrible situation. In the end, as much as you love your dog, you have to do what it right for your family. You are showing how much you love him by doing the work to find him a great home. I hope you find him a great home soon. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Please Help- Need a Loving Home for my Dog! *UPDATE! #2: 3/1*

UPDATE #2, 3/1: Well, the family wanted to keep Leo instantly. To be honest, I wasn't expecting that but I figured it was best to do that so he could start getting used to the other doxie they have. There were a few fights between them; I guess they are trying to figure out who's gonna be the alpha male. I left Leo at his new owners' home and went to my house to gather and clean his things. I then went back to his new home and gave my final goodbye. He was so happy to see me! His adoptive mom said that he was crying a bit after I left the first time. Chat Icon I hugged him so hard and told him how sorry I was to give him up.

I feel like such a failure that I didn't do more for him. I wish I could turn back time and had gotten him a trainer a long time ago. I cannot believe that I had to give up my dog. I wonder if I will ever stop crying. This sucks. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

OMG, my heart is breaking for you. Is there any way they can keep you posted, update you, will you keep in touch with them? What if the feel he doesn't work out, will they be giving him back to you or will there never be any communication again?

I am so so sad for you and what you are going through right now.Chat Icon After reading your story, I called a trainer for my male b/c I know he is a bite waiting to happen here and I want to get a handle on it now.

They are keeping me posted. I have been texting with Leo's adoptive mom last night and today. She said that he is doing well but is sad. They are giving him lots of love to help him thru the transition. He apparently has taken a liking to his adoptive dad. I am so happy that this family found me to give him a good home.

I told the woman if it doesn't work out with Leo to please call me. If it doesn't work out, I will take him back and keep him separated from my DDs for the rest of his life. I refuse to find him another home after giving him away once. I could never put him (or me) thru that. So, though I would love to have him back, I pray that he warms up his new family and has a long and happy life.

It's so hard not to cry as I keep thinking I hear his nails on the hardwood. And of course it doesn't help that DD#1 keeps calling his name. I've never cried as hard for anyone as I have been for my sweet baby boy. Chat Icon

I am so sorry.. I do want to bring a point up here just in case they want to return him.. Your DC is not going to be a baby forever.. As your dc grows older you may not have to do that whole seperation for life thing that you are projecting.. You did the right thing for your family .. You re homed into a wonderful enviorment.. you should misds your baby very much thats ok but try not to feel guilty about your decision.. You did the best for Leo as well .. Try to keep saying that to yourself.. There would have been alot of fear and resentment in your home and Leo would have gotten the brunt of it.. You didnt throw him into a shelter you didnt put him down .. you found him a wonderful home where he ewill get all of the attention he needs.. I am crying reading this ... I feel sad but I do believe you found a great match... so far... please keep us updated ,, Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I feel such deep sadness for you. Are you having second thoughts?

I am glad you are communicating with them. I do hope if they have any issues with him, that he absolutely comes right back to you. That would be my biggest concern. I can't even imagine the pain you are feeling now. Chat Icon

Yes, I am having second thoughts. I am miserable that I gave him away. But at the same time, I would never forgive myself if he bit a child again. I was very fortunate that he didn't scar my DDs face. Like 'dilb712' pointed out, my DDs will not be babies forever and if he were to come back to us, I wouldn't have to keep him separated forever... I just wish I could fast forward about 4 years and could get him back when my DDs are old enough to know to stay away or to be very careful. Chat Icon

I'm so sorry you had to give him up, but you did what you had to do for your family. He will be fine after a month or so, and adjust to his new owners that will treat him with as much love as you provided him.
