Re: Did anyone see the article about feral Beagles out east?
I'm not one to stereotype but multiple people in the Lab Rescue I'm getting Ginger from told me that there is a general apathy in the south regarding dog ownership, especially hunting dogs.
They are resorting to transporting dogs to the northeast where generally we care for our dogs better and there are more adoption opportunities. Again, just repeating what I was told by many people.
I suppose the hunters that do it for kicks rather than putting meat on the table or population control aren't going to care much about an underperforming dog either.
eta: Dogs who are left to fend for themselves in the wild will do whatever it takes. Most of them can probably be rehabilitated. It's amazing what they do at places like Best Friends Animal Society.

Yes, I saw it this morning. Those poor puppy dogs out in this cold and hungry, so sad. A lady from the Kent Shelter said that they will possibly have as many as 40 beagles during the hunting season left and abandoned.

Can we go hunt for the hunters??? Just saw this on the news...my one dog was a stray in the city...when we first got her she would knock over the garbage looking for food & was very aggressive with any food or bones we gave her...after training and patience she no longer does either...so i am hoping these pups can do the same.

this happened on Long island- not in the south- so I guess it's just hunters in general- regardless of where they live
horrible!

I know it's happening on Long Island, I read the article. I thought maybe the hunting thing was a common facet to these kinds of apathetic dog owners. But didn't want to stereotype and say all hunters are like this, since I know a few who treat their hunting Labs like royalty.

Re: Did anyone see the article about feral Beagles out east?
Ok Ok so I finally had the courage to read it.
I didn't even realize it was happening HERE on LI. I am sick!!! Do we really have such ignorant inhumane men living here, to do that to these dogs????
Something has to be done!!! This is insane. Where are these men getting these dogs from in the first place?
Who can I contact to help, most likely to donate since I don't live anywhere near there and I have no time being that I am a SAHM of a small child.
I am sick and saddened by this. Is anyone dedicating their help to these poor beagles, to rescueing them? I would love to donate to them. This cannot go on. Just cannot. I am disgusted and upset, I want to cry. This is just downright vicious to do to a dog, leave it in the woods.
Maybe we can get a petition going or something, how much hunting is really allowed here anyway that his is going on?????????????????????????????//

Re: Did anyone see the article about feral Beagles out east?
Kent animal shelter has one named Santa up for adoption.
I think I am going to contact them to see what they say about rescueing these poor dogs, what can we do to stop this as well. And also to make a donation.
I AM SICK SICK SICK over this.

Re: Did anyone see the article about feral Beagles out east?
Oh lord....I hateeeee hearing about things like this!!!! It is SICKENING!!! I recently heard that this happens in the south all of the time. I realllllly don't understand the hunter mentality, but especially those that have no empathy for the life of domesticated animals.
