I am so sad because I love this dog and this its a great match for us.

If that's the case, I wouldn't let a piece of paper deter me from adopting a companion for the next 10+ years. It's possible they see that request as a test of how much people are willing to give up to adopt a dog that needs a forever family.

To be completely honest, I would rather deal with a rescue like that than one that just hands a dog over to anyone. I understand the privacy concern, I really do. It's just not a deal breaker for me. I hope you do find a good match for your family.

edited to add:

Question... Is this a requirement of all adopters, and is it something they state on their website? Or do they ask only in some circumstances? Just asking out of curiosity.

Its not just a "piece of paper" that is deterring me...its how my husband was a victim of identity thef and if not taking any chances. I am disappointed but if its their policy there is nothing I can do

It is a new requirement, required of everyone...while its good in some ways they will loose a lot of really awesome "pet parents"

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to demean your privacy by saying it's just a piece of paper - I was drawing a comparison between your emotions and wishes on the subject versus what they were asking of you because you seem to feel pretty strongly that this dog is "the one". Of course you should only do what you're comfortable with, especially since you've been burned before.

Good luck with your search, I hope you do find a great match elsewhere.
