Williamsburg, VA....
Talk to me!!!
Just scored one of the Wyndham Resort time share places from a friend for next to nothing over the February break. However, it's winter, so I know Busch Gardens will be closed. However, we jsut want the week away and we got a beautiful place with a full kitchen for next to nothing so we couldn't pass it up.
Besides Colonial Williamsburg, what else is there to do? It's me, DH and our 7 month old DC (no bars this trip!! lol) Would love to hear about local things to do, restaurants, shopping, etc.
Also, about how far from Richmond and Roanoke (I have friends in both places - might be nice to meet up!)
And side note: does anyone know if Colonial Williamsburg does discounted or free admission for teachers?
TIA!!!!

Re: Williamsburg, VA....
I love Colonial Williamsburg. I've never been in the winter, but my mom just came back from a girls weekend. They enjoyed spa services at the Williamsburg Inn, ate lots of good meals (Pierce's Pit BBQ is great for southern barbeque), and went outlet shopping (prime outlets). Not sure about winter hours, but you can also check out nearby Jamestown.

Definetely outlet shopping and colonial williamsburg. I think there are plantation settlements to visit as well and we loved walking around WIilliam and Mary. I haven't heard of discounts for teachers. We went a few years ago and heard nothing about a discount. Are you a member of AAA? You can get discount tickets through them as well as more info on the area.

Re: Williamsburg, VA....
Check out Jamestown and Yorktown. Eat lunch at the Cheese Shoppe. Normally I'd recommend The Trellis, but that's more fancy date night out, expensive type dining, so I'm not sure if you'd want to bring DD there. There's the Williamsburg Winery too, which isn't a "bar," so they may be more family friendly or have a bistro or tour, maybe see if they have a website.
You'll be about an hour from Richmond, which is definitely doable. Roanoke is a lot farther.

Re: Williamsburg, VA....
There is a Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg and you can just buy a day pass for the indoor water park and enjoy the amenities of the hotel. Its a pretty cool place.
I also agree the outlet's are nice and there is a Pottery Factory up there thats pretty cool to visit for shopping.
Have fun!

Re: Williamsburg, VA....
Thank you everyone!!! I appreciate the suggestions.
FYI: AAA does not offer discounted tickets to Colonial Williamsburg, but they do have them for Busch Gardens.
I called Colonial Williamsburg directly and they do have a teacher's discount. You cant' buy them in advance, but you can get them the day of and show your teacher ID or other proof you are a teacher. Discount is 50% which awesome. Since DH and I are both teachers it's like a 2 for 1 deal.

Re: Williamsburg, VA....
We went for our anniversary a few years ago and just went recently -- the week before Christmas, which was amazing.
I have to say, it is really nice in the winter because there are less crowds and you get to soak things in.
The actual Colonial Williamsburg is great. Depending on the time you'll spend there you can get tickets that will apply. There is a bus that takes you around to all different parts. Take a look at the schedule and mark everything you want to do. Some night things are extra money, but so worth it.
Definitely walk to William and Mary -- the oldest continuous use academic building is the first one you'll come across.
Eat the Cheese Shop -- delish! And, walk around all of the shops. We adore the Peanut Shop (free samples and great nuts!).
Williamsburg Winery is close by and you can definitely bring children. Go across the path from the main winery and you can have lunch at their french bistro. We did a flight of wine and cheese sampler that was to die-for.
When you drive down, you have the option of taking the ferry from Cape May -- we did it this time around and it was fun. Also, going over the longest bridge and tunnel system through Virigina, as well.
Have fun!
