sun tanning on vacation
I am currently 8 weeks pregnant. DH and I will be heading off to Hawaii next Friday for 2 weeks and I wanted to know if it's ok to be in the sun since we will probably be outdoors alot and getting a tan on this white body of mine. I guess I should stay well hydrated and have food with me at all times. I will be seeing my doctor on Monday so I will ask him as well. Any suggestions?

Re: sun tanning on vacation
I went to Hawaii on our babymoon in January. The doctor told me that pregnant women tend to burn very easily even if you tanned before you became preggo. I used waterproof SPF30 everyday and still ended up slightly burned. I used to burn then tan. I went from white to red, red to white no tan. I even put it on when I was just going for a walk for 20 minutes. My advice would be to (1) talk to you doctor, (2) stay hydrated and (3) put on sunscreen even if it is overcast and whenever you step outside.
Have fun in Hawaii!!! What Island will you be staying at?

Re: sun tanning on vacation
I agree with burning more easily!
I never had a sunburn in my life, no matter what I did, but I felt like I was going to burn when I was outside this week after just a couple of hours. Now I have this mean tan on my face that looks kinda silly.
I'm using SPF 30 every day...

Re: sun tanning on vacation
I also never burn but when I went to Jamaica last year, I was 12 weeks. I got such a bad burn on my legs I could not walk. DH took me to the nurse but she could not do anything for me since I was pregnant. She told me to go back to the room and sit in a cool tub of water . It really didn't help that much. I had sunblock on and was not even in the sun much that day. After that I had to sit in complete shade except the last day I went in the sun a bit and luckily I didn't get burned.
eta: your going to love Maui! That was our favorite island on our honeymoon. You must do the sunrise at Haleakala. It is beautiful!!!

Have fun...be careful though, make sure you use a lot of sunblock. I will be going to Florida in June, and the DR said to be very careful

I burned faster than normal when I went to Florida in March, so just be careful. You go right to tan, never really burning anyway so I don't think you will have a problem as long as you use sunblock.
Did you ever think you'd hear me telling you to use sunblock?
