When you look at Trip Advisor reviews ...
What % of ppl recommending do you generally look for?
Do you take the negative reviews with a grain of salt (or perhaps a whole salt shaker depending on how crazy the rants are? )

Re: When you look at Trip Advisor reviews ...
I tend to look at the most recent reviews.
If the negative reviews all say the same type of thing, say the a/c didn't work or property looked run down I may look elswhere.
If the positives outweigh the negatives by at least 90% I consider it a good assessment.
I also look online for home videos of the properties to see what it really looks like, not the marketing stuff.
I hope this helps!

Re: When you look at Trip Advisor reviews ...
i like to see the consistency in the ratings of the hotel, overall.
i read the latest reviews -- and even msg the people who gave negative ones to find out more info about their experience.
plus i use their forums, and will search the forums for the name of the hotel I'm looking at and see what people on there say as well!

I just started doing this. I didn't even know they had forums until recently. I have found some very useful info by checking out the forums.
To answer your original question, I don't take negative reviews too seriously if it's extremely off-base from the others and are few and far between. Some people are never happy and just need to complain.

Re: When you look at Trip Advisor reviews ...
I always look to see where the people are from and where else they have traveled. A person who has traveled extensively to luxury hotels is going to rate a Hilton very different than a person who only travels to budget hotels. I also feel that people who live in major cities tend to be more discriminating travelers than people who are from other areas. I use Trip Advisor all of the time and have probably 20 of my own reviews on the site. I would also check out the user's pictures. You definitely get a better sense of the hotel from those than the hotel's website pics.

Re: When you look at Trip Advisor reviews ...
I usually try to read a few of the negative reviews and see what the people are complaining about.
We are pretty laid back travelers but some people complain about everything!!!!!!!!!
When we went to DR, a lot of people gave the hotel 1 star because it was an hour from the airport.....hello....look at a map before you book it!!
