This is what I am afraid of, not picking a hotel just b/c of one persons bad experience, however I am ADDICTED to that site. Chat Icon

Yes! Tripadvisor has only let me down one time in the 4 years or so I've been using it! Love it!

Re: Do you read trip reviews?

I take reviews with a grain of salt. There are many things that I look for that others wouldnt and vice versa.
Sometimes too many opinions is just too confusing lol

Re: Do you read trip reviews?

yes, we use tripadvisor (I have left reviews on there as well - all good) and also read expedia.com reviews.

if several people love the hotel and say they would stay there again and only 1 or 2 ppl give it a bad review b/c of something like room service, or an issue with a hotel employee, we disregard the bad.

we look for consistency. if most people liked it, we keep it on our short list.

however, seeing ANYTHING relating to bed bugs sends me running for the hills Chat Icon Chat Icon I also don't choose hotels where people complain of noise b/c the walls are paper thin. I really hate that!

Re: Do you read trip reviews?

i do but i look on yelp.com now for hotel info since it seems like people are much more honest and not so negative. I feel like most people post on tripadvisor to b!tch only. on yelp its more of everything. people don't review an actual "trip" per say more of the places they saw and the actual hotels, but its really helpful

Re: Do you read trip reviews?

I'm a tripadvisor addict! But I try to take a look at the negative reviews against the positives and most times it seems like people are complaining over minor issues and making a mountain over a mole hill. I travel mostly with out timeshares and it pizzes me off when people give a low rating because they had a bad timeshare tour. When you show up to these things in order to get something free or discounted in exchange for your time, then you have nio right to complain. Noone made you attend, you offered up your time for a freebie. ALL timeshare tours (ar at least 98% of them) take atleast twice the time they tell you and are seriously high pressured. It is what it is, if you can't deal, then don't attend.

Re: Do you read trip reviews?

Yes.

I always study Trip Advisor first but mostly for the area/country Im visiting over the hotel/resort Im staying in.

I look to it for the positives and to learn all the area and hear about the tours and festivities. Without it, I would not have done so many fun things that I read came highly recommended.

yep...I always look at tripadvisor.com. On my last trip to Mexico most of the reviews were spot on with what I thought myself.

Re: Do you read trip reviews?

yes, but only to see if the place is consistently rated poorly. I am very easygoing and laidback, so usually what most people complain about, I am okay with... it takes a lot to really bother me and when I travel, although i like a nice place, a few bad reviews is not going to deter me.

Re: Do you read trip reviews?

It has definitely helped me avoid a disaster (we drove by a place we almost booked in horror) and find great hotels...

I agree, I take negative comments with a grain of salt and try to see where they are coming from.
