Is my dog sick?
She eats, drinks, plays, poops and pees normally.
However once yesterday and once today she vomited up some clear liquid.
Immediately before and after it she is fine.
We just adopted her over the weekend so I don't yet know what is "normal" for her.
I am going to take her to a vet tomorrow. I'm a worrier though so this is making me nuts!
I'd greatly appreciate any insight... Thanks in advance.

Re: Is my dog sick?
When did she vomit in relation to meals? There's something called empty stomach syndrome. If their stomachs are empty for too long, sometimes a dog's stomach can get upset. Brinkley's limit is 9 hours. We usually only feed him 2x a day so to combat the early morning throwups, we give him a semi-significant snack at 9pm.
I'd definitely get her to the vet, it's good to have her checked out anyway. If she's still doing her business, I wouldn't think it's an emergency.

Re: Is my dog sick?
Thank you so much for the response. She eats breakfast around 7 or 7:30 and then tonight she got sick around 5:30 -- we usually feed her at 7 (usually being the last couple of days at least!).
Her lifestyle here I know is much more active than it was before, so perhaps she is just really hungry.
Edited to add - we are making a vet appointment as well!

Re: Is my dog sick?
My dogs throw up if they haven't eaten enough. Usually it has bile in it and is yellow but can be clear even.
Def go to the vet but you have to figure out the dog's norm too.

Re: Is my dog sick?
We are taking Amber to the vet at 4, but it does seem like this empty stomach situation fits. She has a MUCH more active life now so I suspect we need to increase her food intake.
Thank you so much for responding!

Re: Is my dog sick?
How old is she? How many times a day are you feeding her and how much each time?
I can't even remember anymore, but I think we fed Maddie 4x day when we first got her (around 16 weeks) and I think she got about 4-5 cups total per day.
Good luck!!!!!

Re: Is my dog sick?
I hope it will be fixed with just some food changes. When we brought Brinkley home at 9 months, he was 75 pounds and they told us to feed him 4 cups a day. But he's a little guy and that was actually too much weight and food for him.
He's about 60 pounds now, the vet is happy with his weight. We feed him 1 1/2 cup at 6am, a small midday snack, 1 1/4 cup at 5pm and a healthy treat like an apple or half a banana at 9pm. We walk him three times a day and one of those is a 30 minute jog, so he gets good exercise.
It's all different with each dog - you may have to change things up here and there to figure out what works best for you. I hope the vet agrees.

Re: Is my dog sick?
Thanks for the responses. We went to the vet on Thursday and he says everything is perfectly fine.
Amber is two and a half years old and 60 pounds and he said what we were feeding her was good, and that odds are she just ate some grass or sticks or is just still excited about her new home and since she is acting 100% normal otherwise (and it hasn't happened again) that we have nothing to worry about. Sometimes dogs puke, and that unless she stops eating or is throwing up food not to worry.
It is just hard not knowing what the first 2.5 years of her life were like, so we don't know what is normal for her!
Thank you again!

This is similar to what we are doing and what the vet suggested. She gets 1.5 cups of food twice a day (7 and 7 ish) and he said we can add in fresh fruits and vegetables for snacks. She goes for walks at least twice a day and plays fetch a LOT. If she finds a ball inside she will even play by herself - throwing it so it rolls across the hardwood floors (which will need to be refinished at some point now!).
