Re: Talk to me about PCOS....
Well for me it's been over 15 yrs of barely any periods. Maybe a few times a year, if i'm lucky. So it's nealy impossible for me to tell if i'm ovulating, when AF is coming. I'm constantly bloated, acne is ridiculous and it's so hard for me to lose weight I somehow managed to get pregnant on my own on my 4th cycle?? i believe it was. That ended in a m/c, but not due to my PCOS. Since that point I have not had a period on my own. I'm now under the care of an RE. So i'm taking Provera and Clomid to get things back on track.

Re: Talk to me about PCOS....
My doctor is saying I have it also which at first I found hard to believe because for me AF is very regular and I always O'd on my own. But he said my ovaries are PCO looking ovaries not to mention my insulin was really high and then it was kinda of yo-yo'ing...whcih he said is also typical of PCOS patients.

Re: Talk to me about PCOS....
Since I got AF for the first time when I was 14, it was NEVER regular. I seriously only got AF 2, MAYBE 3 times a year. I never had any usual symptoms aside from that- I had good skin (until the last couple of years) and was always very skinny, also until the last few years (but that has more to do with my eating habits and lack of exercise). I have had an ovarian cyst rupture once. I also got pregnant once on my own. It ended in a miscarriage due to several other problems i've got. I never ovulated and only got AF once on my own after I lost the baby. After seeing an RE for several months I got pregnant via IVF and am now 30 weeks.

Thanks and Congrats!!!
I had my consultation today and they did CD3 bloodwork and did a sonogram. Based on the sonogram he thinks I have it. We'll see!

Re: Talk to me about PCOS....
I have a similar story to JennyPenny. I got my first period around age 14 and since then, I literally only got a period every 4-6 months, sometimes I would go as long as 9 months without one. I had some ovarian cysts that would rupture but other than that, no other symptoms. I was TTC my son for about two years with no success and my OB wanted to put me on Clomid. I heard such horror stories about it that I did some research and decided to try Vitex (which is a herb that does similar things) and within a week or two of taking it (I took 800 mg) AF came and I then got it every 28-30 days, it was a miracle. Within a few months I was pregnant. Since having my son, my periods are now regular and Dr. B ran some PCOS tests on me when I first went to see him and he thinks it is no longer an issue.

Re: Talk to me about PCOS....
I'm also new to the whole PCOS diagnosis.
Since getting my period at 14 also, I would get AF every 2 months or so, about 5-6 times a year. My gyno only suggested taking BC to regulate my periods, which I did after meeting DH.
I just knew based on my lack of AF that I would have trouble getting prego. After stopping the pill I didn't get a period for 4 months! Next period came after 60 days and I did catch ovulation that time. Than I decided it was time to see an RE. My RE believes I have mild PCOS as my only symptons are long cycles and large amounts of eggs (big ovaries). Never had any weight or unusual hair growth issues.
I did 3 cycles of clomid and tried on our own, did 3 injectables + IUI cycles and none worked. So now we're moving on to IVF.
Good luck

Re: Talk to me about PCOS....
i was always regular with af and ovulated on my own. but i had the classic 'string of pearls' (cysts) on my ovaries. it took 3 iui's and injectable meds to get pg with my 1st ds. but i got pg with my 2nd on the 1st time with no meds and no RE!

Re: Talk to me about PCOS....
Recently dignosed. I guess not the "classic" case since AF is regular, but based on multiple insulin tests Dr. B diagnosed it.

Re: Talk to me about PCOS....
I have it as well, diagnosed only in 12/07. For me, I always had my period regularly every month BUT they were always long cycles (32+ days) and I always spotted before the full flow..I knew something was up with that. I also had a tremendous amount of weight gain in a short period of time and also started to get the facial hair etc (gross)...what helped me to concieve is when my RE put me on Metformin...to me it's a miracle drug!

Re: Talk to me about PCOS....
Thanks everyone! I go back on Tuesday and get the results of my blood test and they will also take more blood and I have to fast for the insulin test. My cycles have always been long and I found out when I my c-section with DD that I only have one ovary.
When he did the sono last week - I had that string of pearls around my ovary. I have gained about 30 lbs in the last 2 years so it's all starting to make sense. I wish I would have went to see him sooner!
