possible to OD on cheese??
alright - i'm going to confess. i am addicted to cheese. i can honestly say i find a way to incorporate cheese into almost every meal/snack i eat!
i'm a vegetarian and lately have been feeling terribly ill after i eat. i have stomach cramps and am too regular (sorry for TMI!) ... i feel lathargic. my dh thinks all the dairy i'm eating is seriously affecting me because i also use milk in my daily tea or coffee or have yogurt fruit smoothies. is this possible? can too much dairy cause stomach problems??
*i'm posting this on diet/fitness because i'm looking for healthy alternatives. i am determined to get my diet in order. my workouts are great - but everything i do is defeated because of my super s*cky diet

Re: possible to OD on cheese??
That's so weird - I'm having the same issues! I'm also a vegetarian and get most of my protein from dairy. I LOVE cheese and used to eat it at least twice a day. String cheese is one of my favorite snacks. Pizza? Eggplant parm? Quesadillas? Yum, yum, and yum.
But lately I've noticed that my stomach is all big and bloated. I thought it was hormonal until one night when I had a big bowl of ice cream and my stomach reacted as if... well, as if I'd eaten a plate full of bean burritos, let's say. I decided to cut out dairy the next few days to see how I felt, and I have to tell you, my stomach went down in about 2 or 3 days. I feel lighter and more energetic. I didn't notice how tired and in pain I had been until all of a sudden it stopped. I now use soy milk in my cereal and coffee, and try not to eat any cheese. I'm doing a lactose intolerance test on Saturday and PRAYING that I don't have it. I can't be a vegan, I just cant. I'm just hoping that I've been eating too much dairy and that if I cut it out a little, I'll be good.
Anyway - try going without for a few days and see how you feel.
Trader Joe's has some good stuff - soy milk (obviously) is good, and they have this grated soy cheese in purple packaging that is really yummy. It doesn't taste like cheese, it just tastes delicious. Like you know how people won't eat veggie burgers because they're expecting it to take like a hamburger and they think it's gross when it doesn't? Same with the soy stuff. It doesn't taste like dairy; it just tastes good. It's an acquired taste though.
Good luck! I'm suffering too; I know what you're going through and it stinks.

Re: possible to OD on cheese??
I would think so...Milk makes my stomach hurt, I can only take a little bit in my coffee. But most other dairy products are ok for me.
Can you switch to soy/rice/almond milk for some stuff? It could work for cereal, coffee/tea, smoothies.

Thanks for the advice! I can't believe you're feeling the same thing. its so weird! I have since cut out nearly all dairy and have been feeling better... thank goodness
I'm hoping to bring dairy back into my diet little by little to see if i can handle it. Let me know how the test goes!
