need a little RE info

DH and I are in the 2ww of our 3rd month. I may be getting a little ahead of myself, but I am starting to research RE's, but I am not excatly sure if this is the road we would go to right now. DH and I are both 38 and, even though we are trying really hard and putting in our best effort, still nothing. I am not very good with having patience so do you think I should contact an RE if this isn't our month or give it a little more time? I am having a bad day today Chat Icon

Re: need a little RE info

There's no harm in going if you feel like you want to explore - but they may tell you to wait until at least 6 months - still if it'll make you feel better to have some more info. then go ahead.

I would check with your insurance first. Sometimes you need a referral - and if so, you might need to wait until you have been trying for 6 months. If you don't need one, then it doesn't hurt to shop around for now.

Keep in mind that taking 6 months is completely normal! I would give it that amount of time unless you have some sort of history that might make you think there is a problem.. KWIM?

Are you doing everything you can do right now?

ITA!!! 6 months is the ideal amount of time to wait if you are over 35- unless there is a known problem.

I know it doesn't seem like it, but 3 months really isn't that long to TTC. I know several people- healthy and young- who took 5 or 6 months to get pregnant.

Try not to worry yet.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: need a little RE info

Have you been using OPK's?
Like the others said, you should check with your insurance b/c they may require that you've been trying for 6 months before they'll cover an RE.

Have u spoken w/ your OBGYN?

Re: need a little RE info

I think we are doing everything we can. We are very conscious of when we BD to make sure we are timing it as best we can. I do all the little tricks with the robitussin and whatnot. I had bloddwork done to confirm I am ovulating after coming off the pill a few months ago. I know when I O... I guess when you want something so bad you start to look for the magical answer. I am sure I am not alone when I say I never thought it would be like this.

Re: need a little RE info

i agree with the other girls..
if you are doing everything with tracking ovulation ... and timed BD.. i would wait till the 6 month mark then go..
but if your insurance does cover it without referrals then its your choice!

I didn't speak with my OB/GYN. The thought just came to me now. Should I check with him first?

Re: need a little RE info

For a couple your age, they say 6 months before contacting an RE.

Re: need a little RE info

I made an appointment with an RE after trying for 5 months but that is because I wasn't ovulating, so there was no point in trying to do it on my own.

I would wait 6 months if I was you. Good luckChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
