Re: Hot Dogs

I think it is the nitrates that are the concern. I know they sell nitrate-free ones, but not sure where because I was bad and just ate the regular ones lolChat Icon

My Dr just said to make sure that they were cooked thoroughly and, like the acceptable cold cuts, to make sure that you only eat ones from a reputable place (i.e... no dirty water hot dogs, imo). Chat Icon I think hebrew national are high quality, but i loveeeee nathan's. There's no way i could go 9 months without hot dogs. Its the one thing i refuse to give up!

nathans are WONDERFUL...dave's a huge fan of thumans, but i prefer nathans...

i don't crave them persay - but it's a food i CAN eat on the GD diet...so if i can have something 'different' once a week - that works for me!

Re: Hot Dogs

I totally had a craving for them since I've been making organic mac & cheese. I've really only allowed myself one a week...but I constantly feel guilty.

I had a few and then gave up. Feeling the way I did never was worth the hot dog. When I did eat them, I burned them on the grill (Only eat them that way anyway).

Re: Hot Dogs

I've had a couple of hot dogs this pregnancy. I think they say to watch because of the nitrates. I'm sure they're just fine in moderation! Go enjoy!

Re: Hot Dogs

When we went home to NY to visit for the holidays I craved Nathans hot dogs soooo badly that I made DH go to the mall to pick me up a few hot ones. I'm sure if they're cooked well they're fine.

Thats the only way I eat them too. SOOO yummy!! Now I want one. However, my best friend who's an ob/gyn said stay away from them, so I am just to be on the safe side.
