Should I make an appt with an RE?
Ladies, can I get your opinions? My DH and I decided after our wedding (Aug 07) that we'd stop being careful (I hadn't been on the pill for 3 years) and whatever happens happens. That was 7-8 months. Then we started trying seriously using CBEFM, preseed, evening primrose oil, etc. and it's been 10 months of that. I've had 1 chemical that I know of in July, and I'm pretty sure 1 last month (didn't test early but had implantation bleeding again and sore boobs, strong sense of smell).
Should I see an RE? I don't need a referral, but my OB said that if I see them they're gonna want to start IUI's, IVF, etc right away. My OB put me on Clomid and this is my first month (I ovulate tomorrow ) because my cycles are between 36-42 days (I usually O anywhere between CD18-24). DH is going for semen analysis when we get back to NY. Any thoughts? Also, should I wait until I know if I'm in/out this month to make the appointment, or should I just make it anyways? Sorry so long.

Re: Should I make an appt with an RE?
Sounds like you are ready for the RE. Are you prepared to have IUI or other treatments that the RE will offer? You just started clomid, so you are ready to be pregnant? Has your GYN addressed the issue of the chemical pregnancies? Maybe an RE will be more aggressive in addressing these issues, if you are prepared.
A consult will allow you the opportunity to get an idea of what they can do for you. You are not committing to treatment. If you go to most RE websites, they will give you an intro to their services and what to expect. Call the office your interested in working with and find out how far out their appointments are, it may take a few weeks to get in for a consult.
I wish you the best in whichever path you choose! Good Luck!

Re: Should I make an appt with an RE?
I've been trying seriously since June. I went off the pill in Feb 08 and the cycles after that were fine (29-31) days. then june was 45 days and i thought i hit the jackpot b/c i was 2 weeks late. But nothing.
So i started using the CBEFM in august. My cycles were still wacky after that up until last month.
Spoke to my new GYN in nov and saw her again last weekend. I have to have an HSG done and my hubby is getting an SA done. (well he had one done already, but too many errors with the lab, we're having another one done just to be safe.)
So the plan is Day 9 get the HSG. I have to take clomid days 4-8, then day 13 will be an IUI (thats if we choose to do the IUI and everything is ok on the HSG.)
Maybe speak to your dr. about having an HSG done first to see if there are any potential blockages that are hindering things. No sense in starting IUI's etc if something is blocking your tubes.
I havent been trying as long as you, but maybe an HSG can be done first and then seek an RE for consult.
Good luck.

Re: Should I make an appt with an RE?
I think it might be a good time.
You definitely want to have the SA done because if there are any major issues with the sperm, then Clomid might not even help.
Like PP said, I'd definitely want an HSG too to make sure your tubes are open and your uterus is okay.
CD 3 bloodwork would be a good idea too.
The RE will know exactly what testing to do based on your history and I found that going and getting a plan really helped me feel better about everything and feel like someone was there trying to get me pregnant!

Re: Should I make an appt with an RE?
Thanks for your advice ladies. I think I will schedule an appointment with an RE. I'm not ready for IUI's, IVF, etc just yet. I don't even want to do another round of Clomid right now.....I think I would just like to know what the problem is and why we're not getting pregnant! As for the chemicals, I haven't spoken to my OB in detail about them yet. But I think I'll go straight to the RE with everything. Thanks again!

Re: Should I make an appt with an RE?
Given your history and the fact that you are on Clomid, I would definitely consider a RE. With that said, you should be somewhat ready for testing and more agressive treatments. Usually a first line treatment with a RE is Clomid or Clomid with IUI. I started seeing a RE after 6 months of no success TTC with every trick in the book and it took almost another entire year after that to finally get pregnant with IVF. I also had 2 chemical pregnancies and unexplained infertility. Your age should also factor into your consideration. If you are nearing 35 or older you should not waste too much time. JMO!

Thanks for the advice....I will definitely see an RE to find out why we're not getting PG or having it stick, but I don't think I'm ready for more aggressive treatments just yet. I would prefer to go to an acupuncturist that practices traditional Chinese medicine to try and get my body straightened out first, and then do aggressive treatments if that doesn't work. (I'd give it about 6 months). I just turned 30 so I know I have a little time!

Re: Should I make an appt with an RE?
just tell them where you are and that your not ready for the aggresive treatments. I'm just on clomid right now with my RE (natural cycle) and if doesn't work this cycle, I'll do another round next. If that doesn't work, I may move on to injectables + IUI or take a month or 2 off. A good RE will not pressure you and will take you through every method until you need to move on to the next or take a break. FYI- they will only put you on clomid for 3-4 cycles as it can damage your lining if taken too long. good luck!
