Clomid question...really long, apologizing in advance.

DH and I have been trying naturally for sometime now. No success.
I have been to 3 different doctors...1 was just a nightmare and 2 thought that I was overreacting on my lack of conceiving. I explained that I had cervical cancer at 16 but have been cancer free for 11.5 years, my mother had a full term still born, then m/c twins, then m/c triplets (all 3 pregnancies were 100% natural). And my sister had a cysts on her ovary the size of an orange at the age of 19. Plus I m/c at 7 weeks 4 years ago.

Now on Thursday I am meeting with a doc that actually took the time to call before my appointment to discuss why I was scheduling an appointment. She said that I sounded like a perfect candidate for provera to start my period ( as I have NEVER been regular), and then clomid to start ovulation.

My 3 questions are...

#1. I have heard so many mixed match things about clomid and the side affects, if you took clomid, what were your side affects and did it effect your everyday life, i.e. work or social settings?

#2. If you were on clomid or know someone who was what was the dosage, and why did the doctor give you that dosage? (ok I know that is a 2 parter)

#3. Does anyone know an LIF success rate for women on clomid? I ask this because every website I research gives me different numbers. My DH thinks that after one month with clomid we will get pregnant and have a healthy baby, but I am trying to be more realistic and say 4 months.

Thanks for reading this, I am just up and frusterated and confused and...well I guess ya'll know the rest.

Re: Clomid question...really long, apologizing in advance.

Hi

I was on my first round of Clomid this month.

#1-How did you feel? I felt some headaches and also felt very sick to my stomach. The side effects subsided in the end though. I freaked out about the side effects but in the end it wasn't that bad and it is a means to an end. I was definetely able to go to work and stuff. I also work long hours and have a long commute and I was ok. Irritable BUT ok

#2-I was on 50mg...the doctor will determine how much you need depending on your body. I believe 50 is what you usually start with...I say that after reading what others have gone through on here.

#3-LIF success rate varies-it seems that some got lucky and some took a few rounds of clomid-this is my observation.

Do a search on Clomid and Success

I wish you lots of luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Clomid question...really long, apologizing in advance.

I took clomid 50mg. No side effects (i took it before i went to bed, so that may have helped, but i didnt notice any changes). I got PG my first month on it. I understand wanting statistics, but they're not reliable anyway. Many women may not take clomid alone (i didn't- i triggered with Ovidrel), and there are so many different diagnosis, too. I searched for stats like crazy when i was taking it and to be honest, it was all pointless. One site will give you hope, another will take it away. Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I didn't have any issues with Clomid 50 mg or 100 mg , got pg on both does, lost both pregnancies, not due to clomid, both for different reasons.

Are you seeing an RE or a regular ob? I would suggest an RE or high risk ob b/c of your issues and family history.

Good luck!Chat Icon

Re: Clomid question...really long, apologizing in advance.

I was on 100 mg Clomid and had minimal side effects. The most noticeable side effect for me was bloating.

Unfortunately, I did 3 Clomid/IUI cycles and had no success. I have moved onto injectables.

Good luck!!

My 3 questions are...

#1. I have heard so many mixed match things about clomid and the side affects, if you took clomid, what were your side affects and did it effect your everyday life, i.e. work or social settings?

The only side effects I experienced were hot flashes ( which when i took it at night were tolerable) , occasional headaches and a few times trails in my vision ...Definately did not affect my social life or work

#2. If you were on clomid or know someone who was what was the dosage, and why did the doctor give you that dosage? (ok I know that is a 2 parter) I started off on 50mg and eventually moved up to 150mg, when I wasnt responding well enough on the low dose

#3. Does anyone know an LIF success rate for women on clomid? I ask this because every website I research gives me different numbers. My DH thinks that after one month with clomid we will get pregnant and have a healthy baby, but I am trying to be more realistic and say 4 months.

I conceived my DS
<---------------------- on Clomid/IUI- mild PCOS , 3rd IUI, I was 30 at the time...

With all that being said- I unfortunately wasted 7 months at a regular GYN, who had me on Clomid with timed BD, and was never properly monitiored...i finally went to an RE, and I had an HSG done to check my tubes ( all normal thankfully, otherwise all the Clomid in the world would not have helped) , and found out that Clomid can cause a dryiing effect on CM, and perhaps thats why I had not conceived with timed BD...After 3 months w/ the RE, and clomid/IUI I conceived my DS....Fast forward 2 years later and IUI/Clomid did not work and my current pg. happened with IVF after several unsuccessful IUI/Clomid cycles ( I was 33 with that pg) ...no real explanation why it didnt work for us again ( mayeb age) ...we have no MF at all...There is a limited amount of cycles you can take Clomid for because it has a tendency to thin your lining- My only rec. is if you are not with an RE, to maybe even have a consult with one since this is their specialty ( just from experience I know that I was comfortable with my GYN but it was a big mistake of mine Chat Icon )...If you are with an RE- definately Clomid is the 1st step and isnt all that bad, definately the least invasive and the least $$$...Good Luck Chat Icon !

Re: Clomid question...really long, apologizing in advance.

I took 50 mg of clomid, this was my second cycle. First time, a little moody, but not too bad. The second time, hot flashes and very irritable - it builds up longer you take it sometimes, so I think that's why second round I had more effects. DH is aware its the meds, so he accepts my moodiness and it hasn't really impacted my work (I can't focus but thats just from everything, not necessarily clomid). Good luck, one step at a time!

The worst side effect for me was hot flashes. The more I took it, the more s/e I had - like some dizziness, vision trails, but they never affected my every day life. I also took it at night, I think this helped.

#2. If you were on clomid or know someone who was what was the dosage, and why did the doctor give you that dosage? (ok I know that is a 2 parter)

I started at 50mg, I did two rounds back to back with no AF in between, it took a really long time to get 1 follie. Then I increased to 100mg, and got a couple of follies, but BFN (did this twice). Then we increased to 150 mg with IUI, I had 4 good follies, and concieved but had a miscarriage. The next cycle we did 150mg/IUI again and I had 3 good follies, and got pregnant with twins.

#3. Does anyone know an LIF success rate for women on clomid? I ask this because every website I research gives me different numbers. My DH thinks that after one month with clomid we will get pregnant and have a healthy baby, but I am trying to be more realistic and say 4 months.

I don't know the success rate for LIF, but I conceived on my 5th and 6th cycles. I'm 35 weeks pregnant with twins now.

My side effects were primarily being b!tchy, although its debatable whether or not that was the Clomid Chat Icon I was also tired and had some cramping.

#2. If you were on clomid or know someone who was what was the dosage, and why did the doctor give you that dosage? (ok I know that is a 2 parter)

They started me at 50, didn't show much progress, increased me to 100, still not much progress, then I went on to 150.

#3. Does anyone know an LIF success rate for women on clomid? I ask this because every website I research gives me different numbers. My DH thinks that after one month with clomid we will get pregnant and have a healthy baby, but I am trying to be more realistic and say 4 months.

There are plenty of Clomid successes on the board. I don't know if we have actual statics, but its not so much about the Clomid, IMO. Its more about whether or not you're going to get pregnant with IUI over doing something like IVF. I did several rounds of Clomid before switching to injectable IUIs and then on to IVF. Do not be on more than 6 Clomid cycles. Not good for you lining.

Good luck to you Chat Icon

Re: Clomid question...really long, apologizing in advance.

My answers:
1. Took it before bed. No noticable side effects except that I broke down an cried at my desk when my husband was out of town and sent me an "i love you text".
2. My doctor started me on 100mg the first cycle and 150mg the second cycle. I got pregnant the second cycle, but I also rec'd a trigger shot the second time as well.
3. Don't know statistics, but remember your sucess is cummulative. Every month you are on clomid your odds are better then the month before.

Good luck.

I am sorry you are going through this and first off I think you need to get connected with a really good RE. There are several good choices on Long Island.

As for Clomid, I did it for 2 cycles and I defnitely had side effects including hot flashes and major mood changes (for me it was depression). I was told that the Clomid/IUI success rates are around 30% after 3 months of treatment. GL!

My 3 questions are...

#1. I have heard so many mixed match things about clomid and the side affects, if you took clomid, what were your side affects and did it effect your everyday life, i.e. work or social settings?

I was on a very high dose of clomid (150 i believe) and aside from being weepy, bloated and an occassional hot flash...there was nothing to write home about. it certainly didnt interfere with life as I know it!

#2. If you were on clomid or know someone who was what was the dosage, and why did the doctor give you that dosage? (ok I know that is a 2 parter).

I did three clomid cycles. My first cycle I did not respond to the lower dosage so they kept upping me. Even at my highest, the most eggs I produced were two.

#3. Does anyone know an LIF success rate for women on clomid? I ask this because every website I research gives me different numbers. My DH thinks that after one month with clomid we will get pregnant and have a healthy baby, but I am trying to be more realistic and say 4 months.

I think the success rates are goin to vary based upon what your IF issues are. My RE said it only slightly improves your chances over regular BDing

Thanks for reading this, I am just up and frusterated and confused and...well I guess ya'll know the rest.

Re: Clomid question...really long, apologizing in advance.

Hi ! as u see clomid is the first medication that is given for IF.I feel drs give it out like candy!

I was put on clomid for PCOS by my reg OB/GYN 50mg and got preg naturally but mc (nothing to do with the clomid) I started seeing a RE and was on 2 more cycles of 50mg with iui and was unsuccessful. I was upped to 100mg and given 2000mg metformin with iui and got pregnant again. (mc again nothing to do with clomid)

Side affects were almost non existant with both dosages and i even took it in the morning.

Usually clomid is given initally at the lowest does and ur dr will decide to increase your dosage from one month to the next. the magic number from drs and the 3 re ive seen (3 different offices for consults) is 6 months. If at 6 months nothing happens you move onto other medication.

Expecting to get pregnant on the first month is setting urself up for dissapointment. It does happen but give urself a few months. I did get pregnant on the first month of clomid and my dr initally told me it doesnt usually happen... Hopefully u get ur BFP ur first month!!!Good luck!
