Vent: My MIL...
shared our "secret" with her side of the family today at a family party that DH and I were at! Everyone was winking at me and rubbing my back and staring at me...I felt like I had some disease or something. I am only 5w 2d and have had a m/c in the past so I really wanted to wait on telling anyone besides immediate family. I got so upset and went in to the bathroom and DH's two aunts were in the two stalls talking about how "DH is keeping a secret from us...probably because it's so early" I had to run out of there before they saw me or I would have felt so awkward! I was so upset I grabbed the keys and told DH we had to leave...I have only had one blood test and an exam...no u/s and I just wanted to take it one day at a time. I don't know why but I am so upset. I know that she is excited but it's just too early to be broadcasting it!
Sorry but I just really needed to vent because I was so sad tonight.
ETA: Would this upset you?

Re: Vent: My MIL...
I told my Mom in the strictest confidence that I was pregnant last year. I told her it was early, we hadn't told DH's parents, etc. I was about 8 weeks. Well, at 9 weeks I had a MC and I found out she had told my Aunt, SIL, and her friends at work that I was PREGNANT.
When I called my Mom at work crying to tell her about the MC, her secretary answered and said "omg - Congratulations on your pregnancy"!!!
I was furious.
Needless to say, this time around, I didn't even tell her. She guessed on her own when I was 13 weeks!
So, I COMPLETELY understand where you are coming from and I think you have every right to be upset.

Re: Vent: My MIL...
I'd definitely be upset, particularly if I'd asked her NOT to tell anyone. 5 wks is SO early, it was nice of you guys to tell her so soon, but it's not HER news to share, YKWIM? SO yes, I'd be upset, BUT with that said, it can't be undone now - so try to forgive her, and know its probably just that her excitement that got the best of her (not that that makes it OK!).

Re: Vent: My MIL...
My MIL did the same thing. Everyone's defense of her was ... ohh but, she's excited.
Well guess what we were trying to temper our excitement. Last year when we told the world right away we mc'ed and after IF treatments we were skeptical.
It just don't understand what it is about the "baby secret" that people can't keep quiet about.
So sorry she did that to you.

Re: Vent: My MIL...
Thanks ladies! The thing that made me the most mad was that she started crying when I called her out on it...like she was the victim!
Oh well, what's done is done! I just need to concentrate on being healthy and not worry about it.
Thanks again, DH was very supportive but he just didn't understand why it hurt me so bad.

I'd be FURIOUS!! So not her place to tell ANYONE!! I can understand her excitement but that does not in anyway give her permission to tell YOUR surprise/secret!!
I'm so sorry she did this to you!! Notice how its always the MILS- our mothers would never do this to us!!

Re: Vent: My MIL...
Did you explicitly tell your MIL not to share the news with anyone? If so, and she did anyway, I would be absolutely furious. The crying act would have made me even madder too. I hope your DH understands why you are so upset and can tell his mom off for the both of you.

Re: Vent: My MIL...
I would be livid! That is your private information and not hers to share. Especially knowing what has happened to you in the past I would think she would show a little more discretion. Good for you for calling her out on it. I'm sorry you didn't get the reaction you were hoping for (apology). Here's lots of

Yes we specifically told her not to tell anyone! I know the crying was pathetic I was almost laughing at her!

I told DH that this must be what it feels like when a gay person is "outed"! I felt so violated.
