HOw long before the pill is out of your system?

Just wondering. Hubby and I are talking about when we will start TTC. However, since I am a teacher we would like to plan for a June baby. But I have been on the pill for almost 10 years straight. I have heard it can take anywhere up to a year before I may be able to conceive.

Any opinions or experiences with this?

That's true for some but some women have been able to conceive right away.

When I stopped BCP (several years ago) I know that it was completely out of my system by 1 year. That's when my periods went back to being more naural like before BCP.

The pill hormones leave your body pretty quickly. If you stop taking it, you are potentially fertile again the next cycle. My doctor said it could take 1-3 months for your cycle to regulate though. That said, regardless of the pill, it could take just one month or much longer to conceive. In my experience, it's impossible to plan, unforunately.

one hard & fast rule to learn is that NO ONE IS THE SAME....you need to be prepared to:

a. conceive IMMEDIATELY (for some women it's quick).

b. have it take more than a month or 2 or 3 to ovulate.

No one is the same....so please, be prepared for it to go either way.

For me - i was on the pill for 12 years. I ovulated the second month off of the pill. A close friend of mine was on it for 10 years and she didn't ovulate for 8 months.

It definitely depends on each person and their own system. I was on BCP/patch for a lil over 10 yrs. I began ovulating immediately and my periods were on the same schedule. So it definitely depends on each person.

Hi! If I were you, I would come off bcp as soon as possible, just in case. Like PP said, it could take one month but it could also take several. Also, even once your cycles become regulated, it could still take several months to conceive. Speaking as a fellow teacher, I know exactly what you mean about timing the baby. I tried to do the same thing! I wanted an April baby so that I could take 5 months off (including the summer). Then I wanted a May baby. Then I wanted ANY baby. I am finally due July 5th! It ended up taking us 5 tries. You know what? I'm ok with it. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I wouldn't get too caught up with trying to conceive in one month, just in case you get disappointed as I did.

I was on BCP for more than 10 years. I went off in april and conceived my 1st in August on my 1st month of trying. My OB had said to wait 3 cycles.

I was on the pill for almost 5 years when I stopped. Although I haven't conceived yet, I am ovulating, but my cycles are a bit irregular. So my body is being a little tricky with me right now.

My SIL got pregnant the first cycle after she stopped BC, it is so different with everyone.

I would recommend stopping as soon as you can so you can take time to get back in touch with your body. Since going off BC I have noticed so many things that weren't there when I was on it.

I was on the pill for over 5 years and I got pregnant 11 days after I went off it (with twins!!!)

The pill is out of your system almost immediately. However, your body may have difficulty adjusting after going off the pill. You may ovulate right away or you may not. Your cycles could be very irregular.

I was on the pill for 9 years. My doctor told me I could start TTC as soon as I went off. To prepare, I started taking a multivitamin with at least 400 mcg of folic acid several months before going off the pill. I was lucky and got pregnant the month after I went off the pill. Just one other thought...it's a nice idea to want a June baby but be prepared that you may or may not be that lucky. I really wanted a June baby but started trying for an April, then May, wished and prayed for June and I'm still waiting. At this point it would be August. The month really doesn't matter any more to me, just finally being lucky enough to have Life doesn't always give what you plan in this situation. Lots of for when you need it.

Thank you everyone! Realistically, I know planning does not usually work out. I guess I was looking to hear other peoples experiences with it.
