Question about lubricants and TTCing

I read the everything you ever wanted to know and it raised the issue of KY being bad for sperm. Does anyone know about Astroglide? Will it have any effect? I didn't realize this was an issue and we've be unknowingly using Astroglide and I'm wondering if that's be complicating things? Chat Icon Hopefully someone on here will know.

Re: Question about lubricants and TTCing

Almost all lubricants, as far as I've heard, are bad for sperm with the exception of ones that are specifically called "sperm-friendly" such as Pre, Preseed, and PreConceive.

if you kept any of the papers that came with it (there have to be instructions, right?), i'm sure somewhere in there it would say something....maybe??

Ugh! Doesn't it just figure. Well that might explain why it was so crazy easy with #1 and we've be trying month after month after month on #2 and nothing. Though it could be something else too.

Unfortunately I don't have any instructions or packaging. It's not a new bottle. We've had it for a while.

Re: Question about lubricants and TTCing

here's your answer - from astroglide's website:

Can I use Astroglide while trying to conceive?

Astroglide is not a spermicide and will not kill sperm. Studies have shown, however, that Astroglide as well as other topical lubricants do inhibit the motility or movement of sperm. Knowing this, if you choose to use Astroglide, we suggest using a small amount applied to the outer area. Discontinue use if conception is not achieved in a reasonable amount of time. It is always advised to consult your physician first and to follow his or her recommendation.

The side of the pre-conceive shows astroglide as hurting the mobility but not as a sprem killer. I shows that it forms a barrier that the sperms can't get throguh.

Ugh, but thank you. Better to know now than 6 mos from now when we're still wondering why?
