A question on TTC

Should we try to conceive everyday after AF is over to the day before next AF is expected? Or should we try to conceive every other day? Or should we try to conceive on the three most important days? I just got AF yesterday (my cycle is usually 25/26 days) and we really want to focus on TTC for the next year or so. Any helpful info please post away. Thank you so much in advance. Chat with all of you soon.

hi there & welcome! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

There is a popular plan called Deanna's Plan - and it's not tailored after our own lovely Deanna. The plan is something along the lines of every other day...

The most important part is that you are actively BD'ing on the days up to and after Ovulation....what you do the rest of the month is basically just for kicks!

It may be a good idea to pick up an ovulation kit so that you can know when you are ovulating for sure...

Re: A question on TTC

ok first thing.. maybe you want to try and use the OPK's to see when you are actually going to ovulate..

if not, then i would BD every other day from CD10 up until around when you O (or think when you might O) and BD every day for 3 days .

my best advice is to try the kits , OR to go to mymonthlycycles and use the ovulating predictor calculator.. so it gives you a little guide .. especially the days you are MOST fertile.. (now of course its not 100% , but it gives you a window)

Re: A question on TTC

one thing people don't always realize -

with ovulation kits (i use and really like the Target brand, which also is the cheapest)....

1. DO NOT USE FMU - first morning urine. The best time to test is between 2:00 & 8:00 PM. The hormone you are testing for is one that builds in your system during your WAKING hours.

2. Try to do the hold. The kit will tell you 4 hours, but that's hard. Some people have had success after 1 hour, 30 minutes, some 2 hours, make your own decision on that. Try also to NOT drink too much during your hold, as whatever you drink can dilute the hormone.

3. Most kits suggest starting with CD10 or CD11 - just make sure you read the directions...

Deanna, I usually ovulate either the 12 or 13th day. According to the Dr. Amy web-site. I want to purchase some more OPK but finances are tight at the moment any they can be expensive. The ones with the happy face signs are great but expensive.

the hardest part is to determine when you O, so giving advice on when to BD is not easy when you dont know when they typically O.

so in that case for you... if you know on which CD you O, or around.. BD for 3 days in a row,
for me... i get the Chat Icon on the kit.. so i BD that day , then the next 2.

hope this helps!!

If you have a Target near you - I want to say they are $14.00. They could be cheaper - but I don't remember...i tend to buy them when i have some extra moolah...

ok so at least you have used the kits before, so you generally know when you will O..

so in your case, i would BD every other day starting at CD8 or CD10.. then BD on 12th ,13th, and 14th CD.

other people have different ways.. and opinions.. so its up to you!!! Chat Icon

Re: A question on TTC

Thank you so much Deanna!!! That is so helpful!!!!

I will look into the target OPK's, Jess. Are they easy to understand? With some of them I get a little ditzy with understanding them. That's why I usually had purchase the smiley face one but with encomy today that's crazy.

They're pretty basic - yeah... Just a line thing - kinda like a pregnancy test in that way.

Just is your line is dark as the "control" line - that's all there is to it.

The CVS Brand is very good and was recommended by my RE, and is reasonably priced.

Re: A question on TTC

Charlotte! I'm glad to see you are back.

I honestly think the easiest thing for you would be to BD every other day from when after AF ends until you expect your next AF.

From reading your post, this doesn't sound like it would be difficult or a problem for you as it might be for others, and you don't have to worry about OPKs or anything like that. It's a great place to start if you're not ready to be that aggressive about pinpointing your ovulation date.

Best of luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
