TTC after M/C...please alleviate my fears (kind-of long)

I had posted a couple of weeks back about taking ER tests and them all coming back negative. Well, I went away on a trip with my family and contnued to experience what I though were PG symptoms. I've been PG before and have a beautiful DS now, so I kind-of knew that it was either early PG symptoms or really bad PMS (extreme bloating, bad heartburn, hot flashes, almost a stretching feeling in my belly, fatigue). Anyway, after taking many, many PG tests, I finally got a BFP on a digital test last Sunday. I was thrilled, but something compelled me to take another test the next day. So I took the plus-minus tests and they both gave me a very, very faint line. I then took a digital again and got a "not pregnant". I knew something didn't seem right. The next morning I took yet another digital test and got a "pregnant". Yes, I know I was a little obsessed but it was driving me crazy.

Long story short, my OB's office sent me for bloodwork and my PG hormones were only at 28, when they should have been about 100 at approx 4 weeks of PG. The doc told me it did not look promising and I was probably going to m/c. I was sent for bloodwork again and the hormone levels went down to 15. Even before I got the blood results, I knew something was wrong. My PG symptoms quickly diminished and I started getting awful leg and arm cramps. Yesterday evening, I got the first signs of a period.

My OB told me it was most probably a chemical PG and the fertilized egg never implanted itself in the womb. She said that I probably would have never known I was PG if I wasn't TTC. She also told me I could start TTC as early as my next cycle. I have a followup appt on Tuesday with my OB to talk to my doctor, etc.

I'm very upset of course, and more scared than anything else. I'm turning 36 soon and I worry about things I didn't worry about as much before in regards to a healthy PG, etc.

I'm just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and how soon they waited to TTC again. I know I have the green light to try again right away, but I'm a little nervous too . I visited a good friend in the hosptial yesterday who just had a baby, and I was thrilled for her, but it was also harder than I thought being in that situation when I had just m/c. I count my blessings everyday that I have an amazing, beautiful little boy at home. I just wanted to be able to add to my family again, KWIM?

I am so sorry for your loss. I had an early miscarriage in July so I know just how you are feeling. There is a bright side, though.

First of all, you conceived, so you will probably do so again.

Secondly, it seems you are m/c naturally, which means that your body is taking care of it on it's own, which is great.

Third, the statistics I have read point say that this is actually really common- you would be surprised to hear how many pregnancies end early on their own. I have read numbers spanning from 20-50 percent of pregnancies. We just know we a pregnant so early these days because of those dang HPTS!

There was probably something wrong with this conception. It sucks, but it's nature running it's course. I know that this doesn't make it easier right now, but it helped me to remember this. If you post your experience on the parenting board you will see that there are many many people who go on to go full term after m/c. It will happen for you, too!

First of all I want to send some your way.

I had a miscarriage back in Februaury in my 5th week. It was devistating & probably the worst emotional pain I've ever dealt with. We started trying immediately once the bleeding stopped & I was definately a bit nervous. My doctor assured me that there was probably just something not right with the embryo & it could never have survived. After 5 months of trying again, I'm a little over 8 weeks pregnant. Things seems to be going well ( ), but I don't think I'll be able to relax much until after the 1st trimester.

After only one early miscarriage, you are at no higher risk than someone who hasn't miscarried for it to happen again, especially since you already have a child... you know you can carry to term. You have the same 15% chance as everyone else & you will most likely go on to have a healthy pregnancy next time. Like someone once said to me, if you had an 85% chance of winning the lottery, you'd run out & by as many tickets as you could. For some reason, when it comes to our pregnancies, we focus on that negative 15%.

This happened to me after my first IVF cycle. My beta was literally right on the cusp of what they want to see at 4 weeks pregnant (50-100, I was 48.7) Nurse didn't think it was promising. Two days later my beta dropped.

It's truly devestating, I think about that baby every day. In my case, I needed to forge ahead and try to push my fears aside. 4 weeks later after my beta was finally negative, I started my next IVF cycle because my desire for a baby far outweighed my fear of losing another one. I'm also "older" I'm 37 closing in fast on 38.

Take whatever time you need to grieve. Only you know when it's the right time for you to try again.

I am so sorry for your loss We had our DD the first cycle after a D&C which you are supposed to wait two or three cycles. She was fine. We are now pregnant with #2. Oh, I was 36 when I conceived DD and 38 with #2 and both are ok

I had a MC last year at 9 weeks. I waited one cycle(although the DR said I could try right away), and had a healthy pregnancy and DS was born in August. I miscarried naturally, which is what it sounds like happened to you as well. My AF returned regularly (28 days) and then we tried again. I am so sorry for your loss....unfortunately, there are a lot of us out there who have suffered through a MC. Sending you lots of for when you are ready!!

Thank you so much for all of your very kind responses and support. I am sorry for all those on here who have suffered a m/c as well and wish lots of babydust to those ttc.

I agree with what everyone said and am trying not to focus on the negative and move on. I had some pretty insensitive comments made to me from so-called "friends" that did not make my situation any better. I guess some people just do not know what to say or are just plain ignorant.

Regardless, I see my OB on Tuesday and was very excited to find one-a-day prenatal vitamins at Trader Joe's yesterday (they stopped making them for awhile and a lot of other OTC brands are 4 a day ). I'm just trying to think positive and look forward to the future.

So babydust to all and I will keep you posted.

im so sorry you had to deal with this
as most of the girls said.. you conceived more than once, you will get PG again!!
you had a natural miscarriage so your body should heal very quick..

after my miscarriage i started after my first cycle came back.. i am still trying now, but i had a 2nd trimester miscarriage so my body is STILL healing.. its very hard, but deep down, i know i got pregnant before,, it will happen!

I had a miscarriage at 6w3d. It truly devastating, I know how you are feeling. Nature took care of things and I didn't need a D&C. 5 weeks after I started miscarrying I got AF - which was a miracle - I normally don't ovulate on my own and need meds to bring on AF. After that I was able to start a new cycle. I am now almost 20w pregnant with twins. I totally know what you mean about being scared. I wanted to get pregnant, but was scared I was going to m/c again. I still have that fear, I carry it every day in the back of my mind.

I had a miscarraige at 11 weeks, I know exactly how you feel. It's a truly tramautic experience. I feel ready to start trying- my Dr said as soon as I get AF, I'm good to go. I think trying again right away, for me, will be good. Instead of obsessing about what week I would have been in, I can obsess about getting my smiley face!
