Why doesn't my cat...
ever sit on my lap!? He is a 1 year old and he just doesn't like to come up to me when I am on the couch or bed. What can I do? Why doesn't he like to be held?

Don't worry...I have 2 male cats, they are now 6 and 7. They didn't start being snuggly til they were around 3. When they are kittens they are wild!

My cat is 8 and only just started hanging out on my lap at night. I think it's mostly because I'm pregnant and she knows it. (She'll spend a good 10 minutes smelling my belly).
Normally though, she does need to be near me all the times and prior to this phasse, she lays next to me or on the arm of the couch next to me, but never on my lap.

My cat is totally unaffectionate. She is social but does not like to be held or sit on a lap. Not all cats are lap cats.

I have three cats, and none of them are lap cats.
One loves attention and will sit next to us, but not on us. One likes to be in the room with us and will occasionally curl up next to us or on our laps for a few minutes. The other one jumps on the couch to say hello and then walks away, but she is super affectionate when I lay in bed, it is very strange.
They are all young - 1yr and almost 2, so i am sure as they get older they will become more snuggly.

i think it just depends on their temperament. i grew up with 3 cats, only one was a "lap cat." i have one orange male now, and he is a total mush, and loves laps.

Don't worry...Espresso would NEVER sit on anyone's lap.
Some cats are and some aren't...my mother had a total of 12 cats and of them all only two were lap cats.

I agree with the other ladies, some cats are lap cats, some aren't.
Chloe likes my lap when SHE WANTS IT...if I pick her up and put her on my lap...she wants nothing to do with it.

Aww don't worry i have a kitty who is 9 1/2 and she was never a lap cat. She will sit next to me and put her head on my lap but never sit on it for some reason. Your not doing anything wrong some cats are and some cats aren't lap cats.

I have had many cats in my life and I have only had one cat that likes to be held or will sit on my lap.
Not sure if there is a way to train them to do it or if its just the personality of the cat.

I've had 6 cats in my life time and 5 of them have sat on my lap. Only 2 of them actually liked / like being held.
