I'm a little torn... kinda long

I must be healing because I'm starting to get antsy to TTC again... A little history for those that don't know - I just had an ectopic pregnancy and right tube removed at @ 7 weeks.

I have an appointment with an RE on Sept 8th.

Here is why I'm starting to be torn:

I am looking into the RE's testing proceudres and I know they have to wait for me to have a regular cycle, then do various tests on various days of the cycle.

I also have read that some women have increased fertility for a couple of months right after a failed pregnancy due to the effect of hormones on the body.

I had been planning to wait for the RE before TTC again, but reading about this increased fertility chance is making me question what we should do. On the one hand, I want the RE to do an HSG and check my other tube before I try to get pregnant again and clear out any potential blockages (although my doctor told me from what she saw, my other tube appears normal - but her look wasn't as thorough as an HSG would be). I also want to have my hormones tested since my regular gyno had mentioned I had a bit of a hormone imbalance in the past (way before we ever tried to conceive). I want all this testing so that if I need any hormonal help, I can have the best chance of carrying the pregnancy to term this time.

On the other hand, and here is my dilemma now - with one less tube, I am worried that it will be a lot harder for me to get pregnant this time. Since I might have increased fertility right now, I'm wondering if we should TTC even before I meet with the RE. If I wait for the RE, I probably won't be able to TTC again for another 2 months due to the testing at various points in my cycle. Also, if I do get pregnant again, I know I will be closely monitored due to my history of ectopic, so the chances of my losing my other tube would be a lot lower since I assume they'd catch another ectopic a lot sooner this time.

Does anyone have any thoughts or words of wisdom on this?

Well, there's no medical evidence to support that women are more fertile immediately after a miscarriage. The most common argument for increased fertility post mc is that your lining is fresher and more conducive to implantation. The thing is, because your mc was ectopic, it really didn't have much to do with your lining Chat Icon so I'm not sure that it would make much difference.

Personally, I would wait and have the tests done. Losing a tube is really serious stuff and I would want to go through all the tests before TTC again. Chat Icon JMO, best of luck whatever you decide.

Thank you for the info and advice. My head says you're right but my heart doesn't want to wait. However, I know I should probably do what the mind tells me in this case... Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I know how you feel - I've been there! We only had to wait one month to TTC, but it seemed like an eternity! The thing that helped me get through it is that I knew I had a month to get back on track at the gym, eating right, etc. I used that month to really focus on taking care of myself - Except I also indulged in as much wine and sushi as I wanted as well! I know it seems like a long time now, but it will pass. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

OK, so NOW you sound like my twin. I have been saying to DH that I can at least go to the gym, keep building up my folic acid and vitamins every day, and most of all, HAVE WINE AND SUSHI. Seriously, are you my twin? Chat Icon Right now I've been eating plenty of sushi, but because I am on antibiotics due to a post-operation UTI (woo hoo), I haven't been able to have any wine all week and still have 4 days left of the meds. Wine, sushi and working out and getting healthy are the things that I'm trying to focus on to get through this time of waiting.

Of course, the annoying thing is that my doctor won't let me exercise for two weeks, so even though I'm home and finally have PLENTY of time to get healthy, I have to sit on my behind for another 5 days or so.

Those were the two things I missed so badly during my pregnancy!!! Chat Icon Although I did drink a glass a few times. Having to sit on your behind would've been fine if you didn't have to avoid the wine too! What a drag! Chat Icon

Seriously, though, I think we all think these things - ie using the time to get in shape and to enjoy some things we know we'll miss - because we have to in order get through it and turn it into a positive experience even though it's most likely the most horrible thing that's ever happened. You will get through it and you'll look back and hopefully you'll think it wasn't such a long time after all. You WILL have a baby some day soon Chat Icon
