Anyone know if you can still use proactive skin care once you are pregnant?

Re: ProActive

I used it and didn't have a problem. My doctor didn't have a problem with it either.

not true...it has benzoyl peroxide which is safe. salycilic (sp) acid is not safe during pregnancy....

I know doctors have different views on this but I used it the whole time, after my doctor looked at the ingredients and he told me it was safe

you need to do what you feel comfortable with

Re: ProActive

I am a huge proactiv user for years, and stopped using it when i got pregnant....my skin is a MESS without it! I am going to my OB next week and that is one of the first questions I am going to ask - I need help!

wow, see now my doctor and dermatologist said the exact opposite! they said they would rather me use salicylic adic products than the benzoyl peroxide ones... i guess it really is best to ask your doc! Chat Icon

(FTR, i didn't use either, i used azelaic acid, which is a prescription acne med that is known to be safe to pregnant women, i've been using it since before i got PG.)

Re: ProActive

The active ingredients (benzoyl peroxide) were not listed as ones that are problematic in pregnancy. Acne medications like Accutane must be avoided but that is Rx anyway. I've still been using ProActiv since getting pregnant (I'm almost 32weeks) and I haven't had a problem and the OB never said not to use it.

I wish these doctors would get together and decide. Chat Icon

I used it and had no problem, I plan to use it again if I get preggo...I think you have to talk to your doctor, do your research and do what you are comfortable with Chat Icon

Re: ProActive

My dr. said to keep using whatever otc acne products I was using, she didn't have an issue with salacylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. She neither is a problem when pregnant. It's the accutane and tetra-something, but they're both prescription anyway.

Did your OB prescribe it or did they refer you to a derm?

Re: ProActive

When I began TTC I asked my derm about the stuff I was using-- I assumed that I had to stop the Retin A.. which I did.

She presrcibed ethrythromicin to use once I got PG and to start using when TTC-- which are basically like stridex pads. I only really use them when I have a breakout-- which is starting to happen more. I hadn't asked my doc about it yet-- but I will tomorrow just to make sure. But, my dermotologist was prego when she prescribed it to me and told me it was safe-- I am just going to doublecheck.
