How did you know the time was right?

We are not planning to even start thinking about TTC until next year when we are in a bigger place. We want children very badly, but the whole idea makes me very nervous. I don't think there will ever be a time when there is "enough saved" or anything, but how did you know the time was right?

I know I definitely would like to be in better physical shape and in a less stressful position before we start.

I don't know.

I don't think anyone is ever totally "ready."

I go from feeiling 100% ready and excited 1 minute to SCARED and anxious and 100% NOT ready the next.

Good luck!

Re: How did you know the time was right?

I waited until 32 to TTC after I had a house, job stability, and money saved. I wish I had started sooner because I am having trouble getting PG. My advice is to not wait for the perfect time because it may never come and if it does it might be too late.

Re: How did you know the time was right?

We just knew we were ready. We would always talk about it throughout the years of being together; and since we were already living together for 5 years before we got married, we had decided that we would pretty much start TTC once we got married.
We already had "our" time together, so we know we're ready to have "family" time now Chat Icon
We also always agreed that we didn't want to have a baby in our apt b/c it was just too small, but now we're pretty close to having a house so we decided to start TTC!
Once you both have discussed it and agreed on the different responsibilities that come along with being parents, you pretty much just know when you're both ready!
Good luck!! Chat Icon

Re: How did you know the time was right?

I know how you feel, DH and I want to start trying so bad. Everytime we see a little kid DH tells me that he wants one. But the primary reason we know we have to wait is that I am having a few medical problems which I am on medication for. I have to wait till I am off the meds to start trying. We also are still saving for a house or a bigger place to live, which hopefully in a year or a little more we will be able to move. We will probably start trying sometime before we move.

Other than that, our jobs are stable but I know I will need to make a move eventually and find a job on LI. Part of me wants to wait till we have a baby to even consider changing jobs since I am so comfortable in my present job right now. Who knows...that stuff is pretty much in the air right now, I will have to take that day by day.

We have no idea who will watch our kid while we are at work, or how we will afford day care...DH says we will make it work, and I guess like people say, you can not always have everything 100% planned out, otherwise it could be too late.

Re: How did you know the time was right?

I always hear that there really never is a 'right' time- but you make it work!

We got a house in January...so we pretty much knew we weren't going to try until we had a house. But funny thing is, up until about a month ago- I was wondering why I wasn't itching to have a kid! I'm going to be 34 in July! I was just enjoying married life and my career and whatnot...and I didn't want a huge upheaval. Chat Icon I wanted a dog and even counted that out because of the lifestyle change! Chat Icon

Anyway, so many friends around us just recently had babies (some on their 2nd and 3rd) and others expecting...and we've had a rough year as far as our families go (health issues, etc)...finally it hit us, it's time! We need to bring something exciting and happy back into the family! It's been such a source of happiness for my ILs with all the difficult things going on right now...it felt great to tell them that we're going to be trying soon. I love my mom but haven't told her because her questions will drive me MAD!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It just feels right all of a sudden. And the fact that my clock is ticking LOUDLY! Chat Icon Also helped that DH brought it up first! Chat Icon

Re: How did you know the time was right?

I always had the itch and after being unable to get pregnant on our own and with everyone else around me getting pregnant I just didn't want to waste anymore time. I spoke with my OB/GYN last Aug., she referred me to the RE and by January I was pregnant. It just felt right at that time to get more proactive, I was 32, all of my friends were having babies, we have our house, and DH and I have been together for 17 years so we were ready for something new!! To everyone TTC, if you find you're having trouble after months of trying my BEST advice is to skip your OB/GYN and get to an RE. I wasted SO much time years ago with my GYN (who I love by the way) because they just can't treat you the way an RE can. After no luck for months on our own and with the GYN we went to RE and within 4 months we were pregnant. Just keep it in mind. Lots of luck to all you girls.......hope to see you on the pregnancy boards soon!!
