Do you put thought into whether or not....
Your child will be made fun of due to his/her name???
I just worry as children are MEAN MEAN MEAN in this day in age. And let’s face it; children who get made fun of have hard lives. So I feel bad when I hear people mention strange, way out of the ordinary names...and i think…wow that sounds like that child will be made fun of forever. But of course i never say that. Do you think people should say it??? I don’t know... i just really struggle with this one.

No...if it's not his name...it will be something else...
besides I know my kid will be made fun of for both his first and his last name ...as his father before him...my husband survived and so will Junior

Yes...DH wanted Aristotle....I felt that the kids would definately make fun of him for that name. I was very firm. We are choosing Jack - however, my 9th graders do not think jack is a good name - They feel that he will be made fun of with that name too. I feel you can't win

as a teacher, i have seen it all with names.
that's why DS is getting a good, old traditional name that should be timeless

Yep same here. I mutate every name we're considering into the worst POSSIBLE variant. Then I assess whether or not being called that would be bearable for  and if not, its off the list. If its a tolerable level of teasing, I try to assess how much we'll have to set aside for therapy/legal fees....

Yes, I definitely think of the teasing factor when it comes to names. DH got teased, so he thinks it is normal, but if there is a way to avoid it, I will try.

See that’s my point...if the kid is overweight or has a silly hairdo you can work on it and make modifications...but a name… we did this to our child. And if we knew that other people have gotton made fun of it before then why would we do it again to a new child...i just don’t get it

I pick names by many criteria, one of them being, can I think of a way to make fun of the name. If I can, I try not to pick it.
