With all of this BPA news going around...

...DH and I caved and stocked up on a whole lotta glass bottles today. Luckily, because of the BRU return policy on plastic bottles, we were able to return a boatload of Dr. Brown's plastic bottles that my sister had saved for us from when her kids were babies. We were able to trade them in for about 12 brand new glass ones.

I'm sure it'll be a little bit more of an inconvenience, but I figure if my mom and many others could get by without ever microwaving a bottle, so can I.

Anyone else ditching plastic in favor of glass, in light of this whole mess?

I registered for the Born Free, BPA-free plastic bottles. I'm just wondering if I will get them since this whole BPA thing came up just in time for people to be buying for me and I bet inventory is low!

oh, plastic was never an option for us.... I can predict the future.... it may take 10 years, but they'll find another plastic component that's toxic and leaches into food... after all, all those chemicals are petroleum byproducts Chat Icon...

we decided to use only glass and stainless steel for all of Crouton's bottles and dishes.

Nope. No glass for us. We don't have a dishwasher and I am too clutsy to have glass. We are using drop-ins.

I am using the same Dr Brown's bottles I used for Hayley, just buying new nipples and parts. I don't microwave the bottles anyway, I use room temp water and powderd formula.

I am. With glass you can also heat up your bottles by running them under warm watter (glass heats much more evenly than plastic). Plus you can easily dishwash the glass bottle too.

because of the thin plastic liner, I don' t think they can be put in a bottle warmer. Like I said in my post earlier, I dont warm bottles, I use room temp water and powder. This way the baby doesn't get used to warm bottles and i can prepare a bottle anywhere because I don't have to worry about warming it up for her

Re: With all of this BPA news going around...

I originally registered for Dr Browns bottles. My SIL uses them and has had no problems with them. But the past few weeks they have been 'UNAVAILABLE" everytime i looked at the BRU website. I just changed them to the Born Free type. I think everyone is going a little nuts with all this stuff. No matter what we do, in a few years, they will say it is potentially harmful. Our parents didnt know half of what we know today and MOST of us turned out ok!

I registered for and now use Dr. Browns glass with my 11 week old DS and I love them! I personally do not like the smell of the plastic bottles - no matter how much you clean them they still hold that "smell" - like used Tupperware... the smell just lingers. Just my opinion.

I returned all of my old Dr Browns for store credit this past weekend. I never believed in nuking or heating plastic bottles though so thankfully I don't think we have an issues here. I think I will replace them with BPA free Dr Browns.

i've been using glass bottles for feeding dd pumped milk for 7 weeks now. love them! i have dropped them on the kitchen tiles and brownstone stoop a bunch of time and they are SOLID. never broken one. i considered the dr browns bpa free plastic but they only come in 7 oz which is totally inconvenient for a bf'ing mom.

Re: With all of this BPA news going around...

wow, I thought I was one of the few that would be using glass bottles. When I went to BRU yesterday, the shelves were cleared of the bpa-free Dr. Brown's, but fully stocked on glass bottles!

Oh well...more for me! Chat Icon
