OHSS and pregnancy question
My friend just had her first IVF cycle and she was borderline over stimulated when they retrieved the eggs but they still went ahead with the cycle, she is about 12 days past the transfer and she got a BFP but her OHSS is really bad and she is in so much pain, is there anything that she can do? Is it really bad to be PG and have OHSS?? She went to the Dr. yesterday and they did a sono and took blood but they just told her to take it easy.....I feel so bad I want to do something for her....

Re: OHSS and pregnancy question
She should be in daily contact w/ her dr. OHSS feeds off of pregnancy (the actual hormone is on the tip of my tongue- but it escapes me right now) and it will definitely get worse before it ets better. She should be being closely monitored- and weighing herself everyday to find out if she's gaining weight... she should also be drinking a mix of water and gatorade (at least that's what I was told- but I wasn't pregnant- though I would think it should be ok). HTH!

Re: OHSS and pregnancy question
Thanks, I know she has been drinking gatorade, she came to work today, and me and another teacher sent her home, and found someone to cover her class, I told her she better take off Monday too.

Re: OHSS and pregnancy question
I developed OHSS after a follistim cycle and it turned out I was pg but ended in a chemical. Pregnancy definitely makes OHSS worse. She needs to be monitored to make sure it doesn't become dangerous. I was told to drink a lot of fluids and gatorade, not over exert myself but not lay in bed all day either. The biggest danger is with dehydration.
ETA: I took 3 days off from work when I had it. It's quite uncomfortable.

Re: OHSS and pregnancy question
I would imagine her Dr. is having her go in regularly for bloodwork. Because the estrogen levels continue to rise when you get PG (they would drop if she weren't), the OHSS will get worse before it gets better. If she were at risk for severe OHSS, meaning she would need to be drained, I think the Dr. would have cancelled the transfer. She most likely has mild OHSS, which is still extremely uncomfortable, and will improve in a couple weeks.
ETA: When I had OHSS, I was put on bedrest for a week before I went to the hospital and ended up spending three days in the hospital and needing to be drained...and I wasn't PG.
