IF and health insurance
I found out that my health insurance plan is not so wonderful. It only pays $12,000 lifetime for fertility treatments and $10,000 for drugs lifetime.
That could be one IVF cycle!
now I'm nervous that if I do need this, I will be shelling out tens of thousands..
wow...this is an eye opener!

Re: IF and health insurance
Did you ask if that 12K is for IVF or for all IF treatments? I have a lifetime cap as well but it only applies to IVF. All other treatments (IUI, office visits, sonograms, labwork) are fully covered.

Re: IF and health insurance
Mine is 20K max, but it will go further than you think. For example, my RE charges $350 for an IUI, but the ins. co. only pays out $150, so only the $150 goes towards my max. You should find out exactly what it covers - for me, diagnotic testing - like bloodwork, sonos, etc. are not part of the max.

Re: IF and health insurance
If your clinic accepts your insurance, they will have contracted rates and a cycle will not cost the insurance company as much as it would cost you if you paid out of pocket.

Re: IF and health insurance
thanks...good to know.
Some RE and fertility clinics you have to pay out and then submit.
I got so nervous because I know that one IVF can be $12K in some places!
I have to double check. I called today and they said IF. But that might not mean, sonos, blood work..etc..

I had the same exact concerns b/c my inusrance has a 20k cap but Babyfaith and Sweettooth made excellent points. I have to remember to call my insurance company for specifics like they pointed out. Thanks Babyfaith and Sweettooth!!!!

Re: IF and health insurance
I have 10k and did one IVF cycle and a frozen cycle and so far, I have only used up around $3k.
Alot of it may not be considered infertility.

Re: IF and health insurance
We unfortunately have NO IF insurance with the exception of bloodwork, surgical procedures. I asked them specifically about IUI & IVF & we get 0 covered

Re: IF and health insurance
Thats actually very good. Most like mine ofeer nothing and I worked for my health insurance company.
Its the amount PAID that comes out of the 10K which is much less then whats charged.
