A Big Step For Me...

Hi Everyone, I have been reading this board for a few months now and due to some people "lurking around" I never posted. I have decided that I don't care anymore, I could use the support!

I just found out today that my second round of IUI's was unsuccessful and I am so disappointed. I am going to do a third cycle with 100mg of clomid now.

My question is how many IUI cycles do you usually go through? I just don't want to waste too much time. I was pregnant before and miscarried at 10 weeks, a few months ago. I just don't know where to go next!

Thanks for any help you can offer...

I'm currently on my 2nd IUI. There's no set # I don't think.... my dr has told me that I should move to IVF but due to financial reasons, we're going to try more IUIs, if needed.
There are also different types of IUIs- there's natural IUIs, medicated IUIs w/ clomid, and medicated IUIs w/ just gonal-f or a similar drug and the type I'm doing now which is BCPs first, then lupron, then gonal-f and ovidrel to trigger...
Do you know your cause for IF? - If you do the dr. may limit your # of IUIs before moving to IVF.

Thanks...I am dealing with MF infertility. I have done 1 unmedicated and 1 medicated cycle so far. I guess I am just going to wait until I talk to the doctor to see what he says.

You've found the right place for support.
I am so sorry for your loss. Chat Icon

I think in general, if three medicated IUIs are unsuccessful, RE's like to consider moving to IVF. OF course everyone is different, so I can't say this would be your story.
I got pregnant my first IUI (150mg) clomid, but it ended in miscarriage. I have PCOS and we have slight MF.

I've heard from many that three times is the charm. And, remember, YOU are the patient, it's your body so YOU should dictate what progress you will make with the IUI's. What the RE tells you is only a recommendation Chat Icon

Re: A Big Step For Me...

I did 7 iui's b4 moving on to ivf. We have undiaganosed infertility. I did 1 iui unmedicated 3 iui's with clomid and 3 iui's with follistim. I produced 2 or more eggs each time and DH doesn't have any sperm issues.

I also have friends that got their bfp on the 1st iui, the 4th iui, and the 7th iui. good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

also the fact that you have gotten pregnant on your own b4 is a good sign.

Glad you finally decided to post! And welcome! I can't really give any advice that the other ladies haven't already said. Does your insurance cover IVF? If so, I'd probably try one more IUI and then move on. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks everyone...I spoke to my RE today and I am planning ahead for the next couple of cycles. Will be meeting with the Dr. to discuss things next week.

I like having a plan, it makes me feel better.

Thank you so much for all the well wishes! It really does help a lot!!

First off, welcome. I made a new name when I started posting here because I wanted privacy so I totally understand how you feel. As for the IUI's, my RE recommended 3 tries with clomid, 3 tries with injectables, and then the IVF option. HTH!

Re: A Big Step For Me...

Welcome...sorry you have to go through this. I never did IUI we went straight to IVF...we have MF also. However our MF is severe so IUI wasn't reccomended. If you don't mind me asking how bad is the MF. The fact that you have gotten pregnant on your own is great
