Laying on your back
Ok am i just being paranoid? I just have a strange feeling that something is wrong.
I found myself the past two nights waking up from sleeping on my back since I fell asleep. I heard that laying on your back cuts off circulation to the baby. Im just nervous. Should I call the dr or no?

Re: Laying on your back
I still spend part of the night on my back. There is a risk of cutting some circulation off to YOUR major arteries by the weight of your uterus. I am sure you have nothing to worry about. Wy do you feel like something is wrong? I get those feelings alllllll the time also. We are probably just paranoid.

Re: Laying on your back
Its always best to lay on your left side. However, our bodies always go into a "comfortable" position when we are sleeping. So you can't really help laying on your back. Try starting off on your left when you go to bed. Your body will "figure out" the rest.

Re: Laying on your back
my doctor said no matter how you fall asleep you will prolly end up on your back anyway and he wasnt concerned with it.
I didnt hear that it cuts off circulation for the baby, I heard that it will force your uterus to lay on a major artory which may cause you to become dizzy if you stand up to quickly.

Re: Laying on your back
Sleeping on your back can cut off circulation to both you and your uteris. However, my OB said that if that starts to happen you'll get so uncomfortable that you'd wake up and roll to your side. That being said, she strongly urged me to buy a pregnancy pillow to help keep me on my side. I bought the Boppy Pregnancy Pillow. I love it! It does help me stay on my side (although sometimes I wake up on my back) and it also helps alleviate my back pain.
Here is info on the American Pregnancy Association website about sleeping on your back:

Don't worry about...your body is supposed to figure that stuff out. besides you can't help how you sleep when your unconscious! I'll fall asleep on my left side and wake up on my back all the time...once of twice I woke up on my belly...I thought that was strange ...but I think my body is slowly getting the clue that position is not comfortable anymore!

Re: Laying on your back
Is it only flat on your back, though? I sleep with 3 pillows because of heartburn/reflux, so even though I might end up on my back, I'm not flat. I would think that's ok, right?

Re: Laying on your back
I slept on my back for weeks and would still sleep on my back, but it has gotten uncomfortable for me.
My doctor said sleep was the most important thing and sleeping part of the night on your back isn't a bad thing.
