Who spends more on their fashion/beauty stuff? you or dh?

if you spend more, do you make more $$...or does he make more and you spend it?

I am having a SEVERE crisis of conscience...and not sure if it's logical or not LOL.

truth be told, my dh makes almost double what I make...but looking good costs a woman more...especially in the summer (pedis are MANDATORY!) but so is make up, tanning lotions, body firming creams LOL...clothes...everything.

I feel guilty spending more when we are trying to get a house and dh gets a $20 haircut every few weeks and he's perfect

what do you girls think about this? TIA

i don't wear that much makeup but i havr discovered that when i take the time to look good, i feel better. even though DH may claim to like me with curly hair, glasses and no makeup, i know i am more confident with a little color to my face and straight hair.

that being said, i will spend more for products that make me feel better and actually WORK - like my $32 stila tinted moisturizer or my $24 smashbox blush stick. i don't really experiment with my hair too much because i know what looks good on me, and i have a girl who cuts my hair perfectly for $25. DH pays $3.75 max for getting his head buzzed

i also spend more on my face b/c i have bad skin and i need prescription meds and cetaphil cleanser, which is

DH spends waaaay less than i do overall, but we make about the same amount of $$ so i don't feel bad about it at all.

ETA: i have also learned what i can do without, like self tanner (i am naturally paler than casper) and pedis (i do them myself). makes me feel less guilty.

I definitely spend more. DH makes more than me but he encourages me to look my best so I don't mind spending.

But he also goes for his haircuts and shaves at $22 every week like clockwork.

I spend more. What I spend on my hair alone costs more than what my husband spends on everything.

I, too, have felt guilty, and I cut back a lot. But surprisingly (or not) my DH noticed. He prefers it when I take care of myself and put a little more effort into it. He sometimes at me, or even when I cheap-out on things.

When I've tried to go to less expensive hair salons, he's seen first hand the damage done to my hair. I was miserable for months, and it took me a full year to find a good salon. Of course, I'm back to spending $$$ again, but if I'm happy, he's happy.

I guess he's suffered right along with me through the ugly, to now truly appreciate the nice!

I do - I'm a product wh0re (though I've tempered that a bit)...and DH makes more than 3x's my salary.

My haircuts are triple what he pays...but he has to go more frequently than I do so I think it evens out (his hair grows like mad). He likes a good shaving product but that pales in comparison to my lotions, creams, hair products, etc.

No guilt here.

I definitely spend a lot more, and DH makes a lot more $$ (I'm a SAHM). However, DD belongs to a "men's club that is $500 per year in Manhattan and he can get unlimited haircuts, manicures, etc. DH knew what he was getting into when he met me....I have products galore and I pride myself on hygiene and looking good (or at least trying)...he knows better than to give me a hard time about it. It is what it is.

he would never say anything- it's not like I spend more then I make- I am entitled to spend some of my money on myself

he spends it on his car- everyone have there own vice

Without a doubt, I spend more and I have no income.

DH does use pricey products, but the total cost is a fraction of what my products cost. Same with services. Mine cost more and I go more frequently (except for haircuts.)

DH has never given me a problem over it, nor have I ever felt guilty about it. If he wants me to look a certain way, there's a price he has to pay.

I spend more by a longshot, but not so much that it's a financial strain. I try to buy lower priced products, use coupons or shop at sales, etc. And DH makes more money than I do, but I pay for my own fashion/beauty stuff so it doesn't come from his spending money.

i do- by a longshot. and i only work PT, so he def makes more $$.

I look at it this way- I'm kind of his only accessory- i mean, he doesn't even wear a watch anymore. So, when i look good, he looks good.

And, i think he looks at it as an investment in himself also. Happy wife=Happy husband. You really can't put a price on peace and quiet (luckily, DH buys into this philosophy)

I hear ya. DH and i make about the same $ (he brings in just a bit more) but he spends next to NOTHING on himself. I tutor 4x a week so that extra cash is for me to shop, and get the things i need.

But there are def times that i dip into "our" $ and i always feel gulity.

I spend A LOT of money on clothes and beauty. I love manis/pedis, I get spa treatments (rarely, but I do), I go to high end salons for hair cuts and color, I buy TONS of makeup and bath products and I also buy a lot of clothes and shoes. DH uses nothing but irish spring, deodorant, shaving cream and a razor. He gets a 20 dollar haircut every couple of weeks---BUT--I buy all of his clothes (he's an attorney so it can get $$), the household items (rugs, our kitchen island, any extra furniture pieces that I want, tools) and the toiletries for the house (toilet paper, cleaning products, tissues, medicine etc. ) I also hold the health benefits and contribute A LOT to a 401K, which he had not been doing until recently.

As you can see, I am completely rationalizing my guilt over these spending habits.

I just spent $104.00 at drugstore.com and I also received a package from them today!

I am an addict.

Ugh.

I definitely spend more than he does on stuff. IF and when he goes food shopping I have to remind him to for example: buy jello pudding instead of hunt's.

As far as clothes- he'll buy whatever kind of jeans and I'll only by citizens or joe's jeans. He thinks it's ridiculous but he just doesn't understand the whole fit.

He makes more than me and I spend more on fashion / beauty stuff. He wears the same khakis & button down shirts all the time, uses Irish Spring soap and Suave shampoo....and I am constantly looking for new fun things

He makes more. I spend more on fashion & beauty, but I don't think I spend more than I did when I was on my own, at least, proportionatly--I made less money then, so I spent a little less, but I don't feel like I started splurging just because we have his salary too now.

I had issues when were were first getting married, but DH assured me that he he pretty much knew what I bought/spent and none of that really changed & he isn't deprived of things he wants. And not that he cares, but he can use my hair & skin products anytime!

I spend more. I don't feel guilty about it b/c I spend within reason. I'd like DH to spend more but he has so little time to shop and to pamper himself. I try to buy for him sometimes. It helps that I don't ask him for money but even if I had to, I would not feel bad.

Well, when I was working FT, I made more... now he does. I am not excessive when it comes to product-- but as I get older, I definitely use more. I also tend to buy to try-- then a lot of stuff goes to waste.

DH does spend a lot on his "department store only" moisturizer and face wash.

I spend more and make more.

ETA: However he pampers himself more. He gets massages every other week and his hair every two weeks.
I get massages 2x a year and get my hair done 6-8 weeks.
The biggest thing I spend money on is skin care products and makeup. Even if he made more I'd still spend more.

I definately spend more. I make more money. I do splurge on him and he gets mad at me. But he will never use Gillette shaving gel every again after using oil and cream from the art of shaving. So he might get mad, but then he doesn't go back
