Provera question
Has anybody been put on Provera to jump start their cycle and than actually ovulate after that? I'm a little worried, I don't ovulate on my own since going off the pill a year ago, and I was put on Provera two weeks ago. Blood results came back off, so I was assuming that I would go for CD3 testing tomorow, but my dr. just said to wait a few months to see if I start to ovulate on my own.. I was surprised by this... I don't think I will ovulate and I don't want to waste time if I'm not going to... so did Provera help anybody? Thanks!

Re: Provera question
Provera does not make you ovulate. It's purpose is to make you get your period - and basically clean you out. I have the same problem. I went off BCP almost a year ago and have never gotten AF on my own - always provera induced. I am now on my first month of clomid - since that makes you ovulate. I wasted time listening to my dr that told me that eventually my body would wake up - it's not waking up. As soon as I switched doctors - she immediately took action and we are taking the necessary steps to get me my BFP! I would be forceful with your doctor and if you don't get the answers and attention you want, then switch!

Re: Provera question
I know Provera doesn't make you ovulate, but I was hoping it would at least start the process of getting AF again... I just started going to my dr. and he's great.... I will give it two months and than go see him again. Thanks!

Re: Provera question
Provera should bring on your period w/in a couple of days of taking the last pill. I'm on it now and have an appointment lined up for Monday b/c I end the provera on Thurs and they think I'll get AF on either Fri or Sat--- so if I get it sat then Mon would be my CD3 for bloodwork and a sonogram.

Re: Provera question
If you haven't been ovulating on your own for a year, you need more than provera. If I were you I would not wait the "few months" your doctor has told you. If your insurance allows it, I would go to see an RE.
Provera will bring on a period by tricking your body into thinking ovulation has occured. It will not cause you to ovulate on your own, it does not "jump start" your ovaries into ovulating.

ITA! Provera will bring on your period if you are not menstruating on your own. In order to ovulate you will need another drug like Clomid. Do you have PCOS? I would go to a RE to treat your issues. They are really the experts. GL!

Re: Provera question
I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS, but I think I have it from what my blood tests showed last week. I'll call Dr. Vullo up next week and make an appt for a month or so, so at least I have it all set up. I'll need to get a referral for a RE, so maybe I will then. Thanks!

I agree with this too. Although, before moving to Clomid I would try Metformin first, I O'd for the first time on my own after being on Metformin alone for 8 weeks.
