What would u do???(A lttle long)
Had my Dr. appt this morning..baby is no longer breech okay also this baby is high up and my crvix is slammed shut nothing getting in or out!..I asked the Dr if I can still schedule a c-section he said when I'm 39 weeks (next Saturday) okay great I told him do it!! My Ahole husband is so against it ...he is such a looser his main concern is... on a holiday weekend (Easter) in the hospital will be all inexperienced nurses...and after my c-section they will not know what to do!! Please I swear he is soooo on my last nerve! His real reason is that he is so afraid to leave his business on a holiday weekend! What would u do wait it out or go for the C-section!

personally I'd wait it out. I would not opt for a c-sec unless it was ABSOLUTELY necessary!
As far as less experiences staff on a holiday.....so not true, many have no choice but have to be there, many opt for it, because the pay is more.

Re: What would u do???(A lttle long)
well my main concern would be what is the reason you are having a c-section at 39 weeks? if it's necessary tell him to suck it up. if not, i would try and wait till after the holiday weekend... to tell you the truth i'd be thinking the same thing your husband is (not that there is any basis in truth to that but i would be concerned that the more senior nurses would have off for easter).

My MIL is a nurse (has been for decades) and generally has to work every other Holilday - Hospitals don't really "favor" experienced nurses with major holidays off. They schedule them so that everyone gets at least one major holiday with their family.

Yes, everyone is required to work holidays- however staffing is usually done at the bare minimum to allow those who want the holidays off to have off. There is not as much "support" staff in the hospital. With that being said, if I had the choice as to when to schedule a c/s it would not be on a holiday weekend. Just my 2 cents as someone who works weekends and holidays in the hospital on a regular basis

ITA! I would choose waiting any day over volunteering to have major surgery.
The holiday has nothing to do with my decision. And the opinion of hospital staff being less than par because it's a holiday is very far from the truth. Most nurses will work the day because of the holiday pay and really have no choice because it's mandatory days.

I work for Johns Hopkins and it really doesn't make any difference if it is a holiday or not. You could very easily get the same nurse if it is or isn't a holiday. I would go and get the C-Section only if it is medical needed. What is the reason you need the section?

I also agree....
My opnion has nothing to do with the holidays, the hospital staff, or any of that. A c-secion is major surgery, and the recovery is . I would only opt for a c-section if there was absolutely no way for the baby to be safely delivered naturally.

I would shy away from a c-section unless absolutely necessary. I would wait and let nature take it's course.

ITA as well. I am hoping to not have to have major abdominal surgery and would choose to wait it out if that was an option.

I would not want a C section, so it's hard to say. But if I was to schedule one, I wouldn't want it on a holiday weekend either.

Re: What would u do???(A lttle long)
IF the doc says you need a c-section, the you need it.
I really do not think that it is fair of your DH to assume that any health care professional working in a hospital on the weekends is any less qualified. It comes with the job.
And I know plenty of nurses who alternate holidays. Also, there are lots of Jewish health care professionals who switch places with others so they can have their holidays off as well. My BIL is an EMT who very frequently works on Christmas and Easter and in return, he saves those days for Jewish holidays so he can be with his family.

Re: What would u do???(A lttle long)
From someone who has had a c-section, you want to avoid it if you can. It is not an easy way out. It is a difficult recovery. It is MAJOR surgery and not to be taken lightly. I would love to have had a vaginal birth. It was not in the cards for me, but given a choice, I would give a vaginal delivery a chance.

Re: What would u do???(A lttle long)
Some vaginal births are difficult and have long recoverys- but MOST vaginal recoverys are easier than c-section recoverys.
I had a c-section with the same doctor as you and he did a wonderful job- however, many of my friends who had vaginal deliveries had an overall easier time than me- a few didn't, but most did.
I would try for a vaginal delivery if there is no real reason for a c-section if possible.

Re: What would u do???(A lttle long)
I would do what you are most comfortable with.. Just remember when choosing c-section, it is major surgery and it's alot longer of a recovery.
That being said, after working in a hospital for over 8 years, they do NOT view Easter as an "observed" holiday on the holiday calendar. (WIERD, I know. But they don't) So you'd have the same type of staff that you do EVERY weekend. No different..

Not always for Easter. Since Easter is always on a Sunday, it is usually not included as a "holiday". Some health care unions do include it as a holiday, but many do not.
(I know I don't get holiday pay for Easter)

Honestly, I am so scared of having a c-section, that is major abdominal surgery.
But you need to do what is best for you.

Re: What would u do???(A lttle long)
I would only do a c section if the doctor said I had to. I don't think you'll get bad nurses on Easter. And really the nurses don't have much to do with your recovery. When I had my c section my doctor checked my incision everyday and while the nursing staff was very supportive I don't remember them doing much for the c-section. So personally I would wait it out and see what happens.
