lopsided relationships
I thought of this after seeing another thread. I have had people in my life at times who feel like they are much closer to me than I feel to them. Sometimes they are friendships that just didn't make it to that "next level" for lack of a better word. Other times they have been co-workers. I try to keep my distance and try not to encourage them to become too involved in my life, but it always ends up being weird. I don't want to be mean - I don't hate them, I just don't want to be invited into their personal lives too much.
I'm curious if others here have people like that in their lives. How do you handle it?

Re: lopsided relationships
i've felt the same way many times!!! I think its also more-so that i barely have enough time for myself, DH and my family, AND my "CLOSE" friends these days- that i really try not to encourage friendships that move beyond the 'aquantance' level.
i know it sounds horrible- b/c "you can never have too many friends"... but what good is having a ton of friends, if you can't contribute any amount of yourself to them at all

I know exactly what you mean..and i feel the same way... and sometimes i try not to encourage more than whatever relationship it already is (eg- coworker)

Re: lopsided relationships
Well, I know how you feel being that I felt that way about one person that I knew. The friendship was accquiered though another friend. I would basically not encourage the friendship going into anything deeper. It was a tough spot to be in because I didn't want to be rude or nasty. But I never liked the girl. Sometimes if the shoe don't fit....don't wear it. I don't know how other's can't get the hint either.

I have had this problem... For whatever reason the friendship for me wasn't working...I usually pull away and become distant. And although it seems mean to the person at the time..it was for the best and better than me teling them that i just do not consider them a real friend

Yep, I sort of do that too, but it's tough sometimes when it is someone I see a lot - a co-worker or a friend of a friend. I seem to just come up with excuses for not doing things with them. Thanks for the input.
