Spin-off to "naturally"

I can understand why people don't want to chart/temp as it can be a hassle and somewhat stressful.

But I see alot of people saying they don't want to use OPKs. Considering how easy it is to use them (you POAS, wait for a +), and the enormous guidance they provide, why are some people so against using them? I would think it would make TTC somewhat easier as they help to pinpoint when you might be more fertile......

I can't speak for anyone else, but I would imagine (from at least my point of view) it is a lot of pressure! You then feel like you HAVE to BD on that day.

I think for some it may be $$$ (we just bought CBE for the first time... DH and I were shocked at the cost of a kit for one month )

The less $$$ ones sound very frustrating.... just like the $ store pregnancy tests... squinting at lines... is it an evap line it may drive some people nuts.

theoretically, if your cycle is normal, you could just make like bunnies for an 8 day period, and you would hit the right day... so the tests aren't necessary.

I'm with you, though.. I'm sucking up the cost of CBE... It would be too frustrating for me to not know the approx O date....

I didnt want to do any of that stuff.

Now I am doing all of it because I have to and it su cks. IMO, everything besides having sex to make a baby is not natural to me and takes every bit the intimacy out of the whole thing. That is the worst part about it for me. I just cannot "do it" to make a baby. Im willing to bet that many people feel that way. Also, some people are not ready to become militant in the process. People need to work at their own pace and take everything in steps.

I agree with Leslie...I started using OPK's last month to make sure I was I was getting +. In all honesty, I know that making a baby is work but honestly I feel like even though the OPK's help you to know your cycle, it makes the level of "intimacy" is gone...It becomes more of a "job" then fun

I think worrying about it every day, and peeing on a stick every day is A LOT more stressful then just Bding every other day. And I know many people on here have used them for months and have not been successful so what is the point? I am bding around those days anyway if I just stick to Cd10-20 every other day. I just don't see how they are going to give me any info that would help. I personally can obssess and be a control freak so avoiding things like that at all costs is a little bit of control that I am relinquishing and one less thing that I can stress about (i.e, what if CM and OPK don't match etc.) Remember increased stress is proven to result in decreased fertility.

It also is a little more militant and not so natural. AND $$.

But after 7 months of trying I am caving and using them for at least one month. If we don't get pg that month I will go back to my original theroy. We are thinking that if one of the problems is a low sperm count (we are getting a SA next month. So if replenishing is a problem for DH he might only have one good shot) then with OPK's we can do it once and perfectly time that "saved up" ... umm... you know " for one well timed BD. I have no idea if there is any scientific basis to that theory. I kind of made it up on my own.

sorry to intrude but just FYI that the dollar store has them, you get one in a packet for a $1 so i found it to be a lot cheaper then buying brand names and getting only 5 for $30! and it worked great for me, i bought the more expensive one just to cross reference and sure enough, both were positive when i O'd and both were negative when it was over.

For me its lots of reasons:

Less stressful to just BD and enjoy. Seems like such a hassle, if i'm gonna POAS its to see positive or negative.

More mystery to 'am i or aren't i?" and that's part of the fun isn't it? If I can live without them then great, if not then I'll deal with it then.

Money, Money, Money. Rather save every dime instead of using it on causing myself more stress which would affect my chances anyway

ITA about the intimacy and fun part, thats exactly what DH keeps telling me, and I TOTALLY agree with him, but I myself personally need to know that I am getting + on the OPK..but I totally agree about the intimacy party, it should be a happy and fun time in our lives not something we schedule on our calendars, which I am totally doing, and is really putting too much stress on the both of us!!!!

ok, we use OPK's, and we use the one's from the dollar stores. I've actually bought the expensive ones and compared the result to the cheap ones, they are right on. But everyone has their own preference..... Gl to us all
