how much do you talk about yourself?
at work/school wherever.....i try not to tell sarah stories all day long. as exciting as they are!!
but there are people in my office that are soooo self absorbed. all i hear all day is about what they did or they have. it gets annoying.
thoughts?

OMG there was a girl in this office that every word that came outa her mouth was "my kids this and my kids that" it was sooo annoying. I love my daughter and everything she does to me is awesome but I never ramble on about her. Then there are poeple that go "i bought this and I bought that...it's this brand or that one....ARRRGGGHHHH.

at work, I never ever talk about myself. (but this could be because I hardly talk TO my co-workers on a whole  )
In general, I dont think I talk a lot about myself , even with my friends. I've always been more of a listener than an overall 'talker" if that makes sense
THOUGH you'd have to ask my friends, they might disagree

VERY true
I think there IS a big difference between sharing your life with your coworkers or what have you .. its another thing entirely if you are doing it in a bragging or all about me fashion and NEVER listen to anyone else

on the boards I talk about my kids a lot but it's probably bc i bounce between the parenting board & the NFR - and should really pay more attention to board topics to keep NFR actually NFR.
At work I talk about work.

I recently had a conversation about this.
There are some people who just don't have the awareness of when people are interested in their stories about themselves and when they are not. For example, I was in the middle of a conversation with a few people and someone sat down next to me and started talking about her life- I didn't ask. I woudl have been interested at another time- but she was so unaware that I was following another conversation.

AHHH!! you hit the nail on the head....that is my co-worker to a T. and the only time she talks is when someone is in the middle of a conversation w/someone else. drives me batty

I know people like this. I always used to ask a polite "How are you?", and then would get a half hour ramble. I changed my tactic to just "Good Morning". It helps a little.
I see them rambling to others, and the other person is itching for a way out- and I am embarassed for them. They truly don't know.
Talking to people like that also reminds ME not to ramble on incessantly about myself.
