5 ways to share music without getting sued
This is a big sore spot for me. It's like you doing your job and not getting paid for it. It's stealing. There are hundreds, if not thousands of people that depend on the money from the sales of music not just the musicians but everyone who works for the record company, printer, distributor etc., etc. It's just wrong.
this is one topic I have been pulling out my soap box on this for years. Anyway, it is illegal. Some know this and still do it, some didn't know, now know and will stop and others will forever play dumb. Before it gets said. Yes some musicians have lots of money, but that is mostly from touring. When you steal music off the internet you are screwing the guy making min. wage IF THAT (soo many peole have to do FREE internships to get into the biz).

Re: question about ipods...and songs
Even if the money was all going to rich people (which it is not), it's still stealing and still wrong.
If you're one who does it and knows its illegal, why do you do it? I'm assuming you can afford 30 - 100 bucks a year or so to buy the songs... and if you can't, well, I want a porche, but I'm not going to steal it. Would you steal a cd from a store? A pack of gum from the store (it's about the same price as 1 song)?
I'm curious as to why people think stealing music is okay. Is it just b/c it's easy to do? B/c you think it's not a crime that is a "big deal" or something?
I'm honestly curious why people think it's okay. Clearly you know it's wrong and do it anyway, so I won't change your mind... but I'd like to understand why this form of stealing is okay, when (I assume) you find other forms of stealing are wrong...

I know it's wrong - but it's easy to do, so I don't give it a second thought.
I've always said that if they can shut down Limewire or make it impossible for people to do it, then that would put an end to it.

I buy what I want or put it on my iPod from my CD's I have. My sisters computer was wrecked from Limewire.

I buy all of my music. Otherwise it's stealing, no?
Yup... and for those who don't think file sharing is monitored, as someone who works in the intellectual property world, I assure you it is. Every day people get caught and punished for it.
I agree. I actually know of one federal judge in particular who held a mother accountable for the illegal downloads of her children.
For me personally, I used to download free music in college when I didn't know any better. Now I view it as: this is someone's intellectual property and they deserve to be compensated for it. Paying 99 cents for a song doesn't seem that bad to me.

Re: question about ipods...and songs
I don't have an ipod but DH & I download from Itunes & pay the $.99 a song. It is better then buying an entire CD that we only want 1 or 2 songs from

I think people have issues grasping that just because you are not getting a physical disk or item for the money that it's not stealing. Same thing for people that download movies, or buy pirated software off of ebay. (Yes, that good deal you got on Adobe Photoshop on Ebay is because it's stolen/pirated...) It's just not a real 'thing' to them since they can't feel it.
