Is there anyone NOT looking forward to the holidays?
For me, the holidays aren't what they used to be. Now they are just one big PITA that I dont want to deal with. Getting the family together is like the most impossible task and I seriously dread dealing with some of the people in my family
It just kills it for me, The holidays are supposed to be joyus!

I'm usually not that into them, but this year my sister from CA is coming for Hanukkah. I haven't seen her in 2 years and I CANNOT WAIT!

I look forward to the holdiays themselves, but all the preparation for it is a PITA. Tho once it's all done, then it's nice, so I do it!!

Re: Is there anyone NOT looking forward to the holidays?
I know as the holidays get closer I'll be excited to see my family BUT...
I hate the idea of having to schlep all over the country to see family. I would love to spend Christmas in my own home for once. I don't even bother to decorate because we're not here to enjoy it.

Re: Is there anyone NOT looking forward to the holidays?
It is bittersweet for me this year. It is my first holiday season with my family living out of state. My dad has yet to make his mind up if he is going to come in for Christmas Day. At the same time, DH & I will be spending our 2nd married Christmas together & we can't wait to share it with our newest nephew!!!

I like the holidays, but I don't really like the shopping and having to spend money.

Re: Is there anyone NOT looking forward to the holidays?
Really looking forward to seeing my Mom, Dad, Grandma and Sis. But NOT looking forward to the drama of having everyone at my house for five days, my brother and SIL coming over everyday, eating all our food and not contributing a cent. Also not looking forward to the have to make sure my Mom and Dad spend equal amounts of time with my brother's DD and mine. TOO MUCH drama that didn't exist until my SIL had a baby.

I hate holiday time - all this build up only to get really depressed in January when its over, it makes me think of all the people we have lost in my family, impossible crowds in every store, family drama, etc.

Re: Is there anyone NOT looking forward to the holidays?
I am so sad to say that I am not looking forward to them.
Anyone who knows me knows I am a holiday fanatic. EVERYTHING has to be just right. Carols, lights, presents, trees..and if its not, I go insane! I LOVE the holidays...
But this year, I wish I could just sleep through them. My grandmother is gone, this is our first year without her. I cannot even imagine what its going to be like. I dont have the money or the strength to shop for presents. My mom is going to be a mess and I am so worried for her.
I am trying to focus on the fact that I have to create magic for my daughter, although she is young..but she deserves it. So thats what is getting me through. But this time, I wish I could wake up in mid-January...I am just so sad.

Re: Is there anyone NOT looking forward to the holidays?
i love the holidays BUT one thing i am NOT looking forward to is how LATE everyone always is . . . and we all live within ten minutes of each other
every year i plan on eating dinner with my family and then dessert with FH's family but then someone ( usually my cousins ) will show up THREE HOURS LATE and seriously, in my family we won't start eating until everyone is there - so this way i miss BOTH dinners and I spend most of the day upset. . .
i understand they have a kid now but he is TWO and seriously, stick the kid in the car and drive the ten blocks it will be okay
it ruins every holiday but i am never allowed to say anything, and if i make a comment i am hte brat

I'm not really looking forward to it this year. This will be the 1st yr, in 23 yrs that, DD will not be home to celebrate with me And we don't have many small kids in the family anymore so it's not the same.

This will be my First Christmas that I will not be with my family on Christmas Day. I am flying down to see them on the 27th, but still it will be very very hard for me. So I am not looking forward to Christmas Day at all
Same here. It really sucks.

Re: Is there anyone NOT looking forward to the holidays?
Eh. I love the holidays and Im kinda excited by them... BUT DH and I decided I would go to LI and celebrate with my family and he would stay here in Maryland and celebrate with his.. for both Tgiving and Xmas. We made this plan to make others (the families) happy. Now Im really starting to regret it. I hate the idea of not spending Xmas with him

Re: Is there anyone NOT looking forward to the holidays?
I went through a slump where I didn't care for Christmas time bc it was getting so commercial. Even thought it still is....some of the excitement and fun is back now that I have a 2.5 year old.
The only thing I don't like is trying to split our time with DH's family in Chicago and mine in NY, while trying to start our own family traditions. My mom works retail and can't take off and I know how much she's bummed about missing out. I'm not going home for Thanksgiving...So the Christmas the compromise was, we will spend Christmas morning at home with the boys, go to ILs for brunch and then fly to NY in the evening.

Re: Is there anyone NOT looking forward to the holidays?
I'm really not looking forward to the holidays either. I too wish I could just sleep through them. My SO of 7 years and I have recently split and he is moving out right after Thanksgiving. This will be the first X-mas in my whole life where I will be waking up in an empty house. I just want the whole season to go away and quickly.
To those that are also having a difficult holiday season.

Re: Is there anyone NOT looking forward to the holidays?
I enjoy the holidays, especially when so many places are professionally decorated, but there are aspects that I dread. Whenever my family gets together, there are about a million phone calls back and forth because we have to "negotiate" what time to start. Then there are the people who are impossible to buy for. This year, as soon as my new baby is ready to go out of the house, the malls will be too packed for me to want to take a young baby.
