Re: preserving a wedding dress

I was told that once you preserve it you can't take it out since you'd be breaking that vacuum seal. I can look at mine since it has a window.

Yes - I just got my cleaned using WedClean. They said that you are supposed to take it out once in a while and let it air out.

I got mine back a few weeks ago and haven't opened it yet. I'm afraid I won't get it back in the box! Chat Icon

Re: preserving a wedding dress

I had mine done through a local dry cleaner and I can't take it out of the box since it is sealed with some sort of gases that keep it clean and white. It does have a window though.

Thank god mine had a window. My mom picked it up for me since it was out by her and when i got there that nite i opened it and it was not my dress. Chat Icon Thank god they still had mine the next day. I was so mad. They would have dealt with one angry bride had mine not been there

Re: preserving a wedding dress

Mine was preserved and put in a box with acid free tissue paper, acid free box, and acid free cloth cover. So I can actually touch the dress if I want to.

If you do try the dress on, you kind of defeat the purpose of getting it cleaned and preserved because now the oils from your skin could cause discoloration over time. So you would need to get it cleaned again.

Same here! And they gave me a pair of white gloves to handle it with if I want to touch it so I don't get any oils on it but I'd rather not unfold it, they did such a nice job. I just peeled it back and checked the tag to make sure it was mine Chat Icon Its the same company who preserves dresses for museums and I loved that I could still open it.

I think the confusion is b/c there might be more than 1 way to preserve a dress.

if it's hermetically sealed, I would say no, you can't take the dress out.

if the dress is chemically treated and put in a box, then you probably can.

hope that helps

Re: preserving a wedding dress

You can open the box, but you should NEVER touch it and put it on again. The oils in your skin are no good for it.
