Re: Benjamin Moore Paint

Finish? Matte for walls and semi-gloss for trim. We used the pearl finish in our bedroom and would never use it again.

We used the Regal base.

We used the eggshell finish on walls and ceilings, semi-gloss for all the trim.

I recommend this too.

My painter used flat for our house years ago and I did not even think twice about it.

It is very hard to clean flat and although we have kept it looking nice, it would be very hard to clean if we have children running around.

So I would use eggshell next time around.

Eggshell on walls(wipes down great) and either semi-gloss or gloss for trim. We are in the process of changing our trim to gloss from semi-gloss for more of a pop.

I have plaster walls and the luster from the pearl finish shows every bump, crack and patch. It gives off a glow - which is nice for a bedroom - but I prefer the richness of a matte.

BM makes a washable matte.

Re: Benjamin Moore Paint

Is the eggshell much different from the matte? And is matte and flat the same thing.....I'm confused?

Re: Benjamin Moore Paint

washable matte is the new flat that offers the benefits of being able to clean it without the more glossy finishes of the other paints. The shinier the paint the more your walls imperfections will show.

Eggshell has slightly more sheen (almost unnoticeable) than Flat and people tend to use it more because it's supposed to be easier to clean.

When people state Matte, I'm assuming they mean Flat. I don't believe BM calls any of their paints "Matte", but if you were to ask for a Matte paint, they would take it to mean Flat.

A BM retailer should have paint chips/cards that show you the difference between Flat, Eggshell, Pearl, Semi-Gloss and High-Gloss.

ETA: I take it back...according the BM website, they do call it Matte. Chat Icon

I couldn't tell you what the difference is between Matte and Flat. Chat Icon I have the BM color wheel with all the paint chips/cards, but I have everything but Matte.

BM came out with "washable Matte" about 5 years ago.

My color wheel is from '07, but it doesn't have a Matte card. Chat Icon

is there a visual difference between Flat and Matte or is the only difference the washability?

I'm not a fan of Behr but the white semigloss is the whitest I've ever seen.

I think there is an ever-so-slight sheen to the matte as opposed to the flat. It's in between the flat & eggshell as far as sheen goes. In my experience.
