Need Help about timing TTC

Hey All,
I'm really not sure where to post this, but here's my situation. I'm having thyroid surgery in November. Once that is done, I will be able to start TTC. It could possibly be difficult for me to TTC because it could take a while with my thyroid situation.

Lately, in the last couple of month DH and I have become ready to TTC. The only hold up now is my thyroid surgery and my friends wedding (which my DH thinks isnt a good reason).

Now I'm in a friends wedding in June, should I really let this effect my decision? I'm mean, I love my friend, but I know she's the type that would be upset. I already told her what if I was a couple of months preggos and she said "ok" but I could tell she was upset that I was thinking about it.

I used to want to wait because of my job, but the more and more, with several co-workers asking me when, I think my job would be ok with it.

Sorry if this is more just me getting my thoughts out there, but my main question is about my friends wedding. What would you all do?

Another question, those who had thyroid issues (I have Graves Disease, hyperactive, and I'm getting my thyroid removed and will permently be hypo active) was TTCs more difficult?

Thanks so much,
Best of luck to all of you!

Re: Need Help about timing TTC

I think for you to put your life on hold for your friends wedding day is crazy. I understand her wanting to be the center of attention but if you're "a couple" of months pregnant that shouldn't affect anything. Unless you have some bad pregnancy where you have morning sickness all day or something.
My MOH was pregnant for 1/2 of the time leading up the the wedding and she didn't get pregnant until after we were engaged. My SIL had an unexpected pregnancy (not married and completely unexpected) and she gave birth to my nephew about 3 weeks before my wedding. She got her last min. alterations and was in our bridal party as planned.
You never know how easy it'll be to get pg--- as us, we know. Some of us have been here for a whlle. Don't put your liife on hold for anyone!!!

If you're having your surgery in November, it will be weeks before you even begin thinking about TTC. I had my thyroid removed too, and it took over a month to really recover.

I had thyroid cancer, and same as you, thought I'd have a hard time TTC. So I went off the pill and figured I'd start trying thinking it would take forever. I got pregnant the first month Chat Icon

That said, I think you'll still have no problem being in your friend's wedding. I wouldn't hold off just because of that....there will always be things that come up.

Anyway, enough rambling...good luck Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

And good luck with your surgery. FM me if you have questions Chat Icon

Thanks, that's totally what we were thinking that once I got the surgery and get clearance from my endo, that we would start trying, but that would put me at around 6-8 Months (HOPEFULLY) by the time of her wedding. I just got fitted last weekend and I was so tempted to order like 2 sizes bigger just in case, but I also didn't want to jink myself.

I think we will start trying because it may be hard with my thyroid. Thanks I just needs some advice.

It took a month to recover from the thyroid removal? My endo said I should be back to normal in 2 weeks or so. Interesting. Now I'm concerned. I'm meeting with the doctor next week.

I love hearing that your thyroid didn't get in the way of you becoming preggos. Congrats and you are a great inspiration for me!!

After 2 weeks, I was back to work. So yes, you can function. But I had limited movement in my neck. Your muscles get so sore, it's just hard to turn it....and it takes a while to get that mobility back. The recovery itself wasn't bad.

I was more hinting at the fact that there was no way in he** that I was even remotely thinking about gettin it on Chat Icon

ETA: just curious, who's your endo and surgeon?

Re: Need Help about timing TTC

My endo is Dr. Sussman in Smithtown. She's been great. She's been recommending this surgery for me for a couple of years now, but I always wanted to try the meds first, but it hasn't brought my levels down. She also mentioned that now they can break up the thyroid with a laser to make the surgery & recovering easier. We are meeting on 10/30 to go over all the details. My job is aware that I will need some sick time for this. Hopefully it all goes well.

If your health is in question, then wait. If you are considering waiting because of a friend, I wouldn't wait. Life happens.

You and Dave are at a great point in your lives right now, and a great time to welcome an addition. I am sure she will be happy that you are happy and it shouldn't affect your timing to start a family. Chat Icon

I agree 100% My sister who was my MOH got PG a year before my wedding. It was a "SUPRISE baby". She thought I was going to be so upset that she would have to bring a 3 month old to the wedding, and that she would't be able to try on her dress. I didn't care at all, and I was just happy that I was going to be an Aunt again. If she is a good friend, she will be happy for you and Dave, and just be glad that you are apart of her wedding.

Re: Need Help about timing TTC

thanks all. I think we are going to start trying after my surgery (just in time for the Holidays!!).

I appreciate all the feedback. I know my friend will be dissappointed (especially since I'm the impromtu MOH in a way).

Re: Need Help about timing TTC

don't wait. If you want to TTC then do it. There will always be some reason to put it off, so just trust yourself.

We wanted to start trying this fall but we booked a vacation for Feb. then my cousin got engaged and is getting married next Oct. DH and I are wondering if that is going to be a problem. But we decided that we can't put our lives on hold for our friends and families events.

I agree that you cannot wait for your friend. For her to not even want you pregnant at her wedding is very rude. I could see her being disappointed if you missed her wedding, but noone should be mad just because you're pregnant.

I will be 31 weeks pregnant at one of my friend's wedding this March that I am a bridesmaid in. She is thrilled for me!

Also, if you have to wait until a month after your surgery, you probably won't be 8 months pregnant at a June wedding. If you got pregnant in mid-December (making the assumption that your surgery is mid-Nov) and have a 30 day cycle, your due date would be in September. And that is if you get preggo right away, which is very hard!

You need to move ahead with your life with your DH and start your family on your own timetable!

Aw, I think it's sweet and shows what a kindhearted person you are that you are so concerned.

That said, if your friend is anything more than slightly disappointed, tell her to shove it. A 6 hour wedding day is just that - six hours. TTC is not an exact science and there is no telling how long it may or may not take you. If you are fortunate enough to be preggo at her wedding, she should be just as happy for you about that as you obviously are about her marriage.

First-good luck with your surgery. as far as thyroid is concerned when TTC and getting PG, as long as it is well controlled you should be fine. Good luck and Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
