i usually just say " no thanks" and hang up....
BUT, one time when in high school when i was still at my parents house, a telemarketer called and asked to speak to the person in charge of the phone bill... i said " i'm sorry, we don't have a phone" and hung up 
figured it was pretty harmless, and mght have even made the telemarketer laugh a little bit...

I hang up, DH lets them go thru their whole "presentation" then tells them to pls hold. The longest we had some guy wait was 20 mins. DH finds this VERY funny. "they waste my time, Im gonna waste theirs"
I have a good sense of humor but don't find this funny.. and they really aren't wasting anyones time if you politely hang up as soon as they come on the phone.
i agree with this... its really not wasting a lot of your time if you just politely say no and then hang up.... they are just trying to make some money, like everybody else...

I mess with my husband. When they call & ask for him... I say.. "Anthony... Its for you!!!" He thinks its a personal call. He picks up and  . Because hes nice.. He listens to the whole presentation. Gets him every time!!

I interupt them and say "No, thank you and please take me off your call list."
that is what I do also
