Mumps
I just found out a friend of mine has the mumps. He's 36 yrs old. The drs said basically it will run it's course and he should be fine.
I don't think I ever heard of anyone having them.
Crazy.

Re: Mumps
this is becoming a serious problem. The vaccine that was given to kids in the early to mid 1960's is now considered "ineffective" so even if you got it during that time you should probably get the new version now after being tested by your Dr. The really bad thing about mumps is you can't be ANYWHERE NEAR pregnant women at all while you have it.
There is a new resurgance of Pertussis or whooping cough as well. my boss' daughter got it at sleep away camp & still has it now. many vaccines have adolescent boosters that most kids never get.

Re: Mumps
I believe it. I had my MMR shots when I was supposed to as a baby/toddler, but when I got pregnant, i found out I did not have the immunity to Rubella (German Measles). SO I had to be vaccinated again after I had my child. The childhood vaccine I had was obviously not effective.

I believe this. DH needed to show proof he had his MMR shot as a kid. He couldn't find his shot record, so they did bloodwork and it came back that he wasn't immuned to it. So he had to get the shots again, about 6 months ago.
His mother swore he had them, but misplaced his records.

Re: Mumps
I had mumps when I was 9. It wasn't bad, not that I remember much back that far. They didn't start doing the MMR vaccinations in England until I had already left school. My Mum sent my brother to live with my Grandma so he didn't get them, which he didn't.

Re: Mumps
I have actually been hearing of mumps amoung children recently.
i also think that some parents today are choosing not to immunize their children.

Re: Mumps
My parents are from Ireland. They grew up in poor farming families and they did not get vaccinated and they both had mumps - and measles, and german measles...
They are fine, thank God!

Re: Mumps

i had a student with scarlet fever last year...yup...scarlet fever!
and chicken pox, which have been "gone" for 20 years, are coming back to schools like crazy.
