Holy Electric Bill!!!
$405 dollars for July!!! Yikes, that CAC is a killer. I set it at 78 during the day when we are not home and 75 when we are home.
We also had an estimated last month and the bill was under $200. I guess the actual reading this month made the bill so high.

Yeah us too. We have been working on the house and the AC's have been on and we just opened the pool too, so the pump has been running a lot. I don't even want to see our first bill.

Re: Holy Electric Bill!!!
Maybe turn the CAC off when you are both gone during the day. If you close the blinds, etc., it will keep the house cooler. Unless you have pets of course, then you need to run it.
Our first gas bill was high considering we haven't been living there and only used the washer a few times ($78 for one month)!, but it's an estimate, so I'll see if they will allow us to call in a reading ourselves.

Turning the a/c off & on uses more energy than keeping it on and electrically regulating the temp.
I would try keeping it at 82 when you are away, close blinds/curtains and then when you are home go down to 78/76.
Our bill was arouns $230 for the past 60 days...$400 seems really high. Is your unit old? are your ducts clean?

Wow that does seem very high. We just got our first electric bill and it was $220 for the month and it was a reading. We keep our CAC on all the time but we keep it at 80 when were not home.

Our bill was $254 this month with the CAC running 78 during the day & 72 at night. We also have all electric appliances & lights in the front of our house on at night! This was an actual reading too

oh no...now I'm scared. Ours was not bad at all. I hope it was not a mistake. We have CAC also, but we don't set it very low at all.

I was actually quite surprised with our July Electric bill, only $169 with CAC going for 22 days. I'm sure August will be a little higher

Re: Holy Electric Bill!!!
It also depends if it is a reading or an estimate. If it is an estimate then your next month bill might be higher.

Re: Holy Electric Bill!!!
our bills are soooo much higher in the winter than the summer.
Our AC is on 2 zones which helps. Our bill was high this month at $181....but at night we put it on 69 degrees upstairs!

I had the same # I wanted to kill DH since he finds 72 comfortable. We are trying to compromise but I LOVE the fall and can't wait to shut the CAC off and let that cool breeze blow

Re: Holy Electric Bill!!!
Your windows and insulation will have the greatest effect on your bill. If you have the newer more efficient gas filled double or triple pane windows you're ahead of the game. Ideally, anderson windows. The lower priced look alikes are not as good. Secondly, check your walls. You should have 3-4 inches of insulation on the outside walls. If you don't you'll be paying for it in the summer and in the winter. Lastly, check your attic, the insulation there should be no less that 6 inches thick, but preferably 8-10 inches.
