How do you deal with . . .
Situations that come up with alcohol?
Your out to dinner everyone's ordering wine.... A friend you havent seen in a while asks you to go to happy hour... Your at a barbeque and margaritas are being made. I dont want to blab to everyone well im ttc and may actually be prego right now, but Im not sure so I cant have drink. I feel like people will know somethings up if you dont have at least one of their famous margaritas. I used the "I had a headache today, dont want to make it worse" excuse once. I cant use that again. Just wanted to know what you girls though of these situations, thanks!

Re: How do you deal with . . .
if they won't let you just say you're not in the mood for a drink, just lie..... say you're on a perscription med right now where you can't drink.... maybe antibiotics?
they'll leave you alone.

Re: How do you deal with . . .
Well, I've been gradually cutting out alcohol for a few months, even before we started TTC. So now people don't think it's too weird that I'm not drinking. Maybe you could say you are cutting down on drinking due to calories/health/gives you a headache, etc.?
Sometimes people will say something about me not drinking. I don't let them pressure me. And at times, I have taken one drink and sipped it if I felt like it, but that is my limit. I don't think one drink during the 2 ww is that harmful. Marriedinportjeff, am i right?

I do not drink so it isnt an issue. I had more of a problem with someone who told me that I would have a hard time getting PG if I wore my cell phone on my hip - like my baby would be born with 20 fingers and 2 heads.

Re: How do you deal with . . .
I'm definately not in the majority here, but after many months of cutting out everything and avoiding certain situations cause I "might" be pregnant, I now drink during the 2ww. No, I don't go out and get plastered, but a glass of wine or two is not going to permanently damage my baby. Once I see that second line you better believe I will stop! I've just gotten tired of missing out on things only to be severly disappointed when AF shows.

Apparently, there had been some study about the effects of cell phone use and sterility in males but nothing conclusive in females. In this day and age with everyone having computers, cell phones, a questionable water supply and any other environmental or technological issues the population has still survived quite well.
I gave this woman a big .

that's funny
I would say that "you have a headache and just took meds"
or "that I'm try to wach my weight, drinks are fatting"
We were over a friends housewarming a few weeks ago and they gave out Champaine (and you know what popped into my head--the episode on Friends when it was Monica's wedding and Rachel took a drink and spit it out and said that's how the French drink it ) and so I pretented to sip it and then when DH was done with his, he took mine and gave me his, and I held his empty glass as if it was mine

Re: How do you deal with . . .
I'm not a heavy drinker. I can't remember the last time I partied. But, I never had any problem with having a glass of wine with dinner at any point in my cycle. You do not share a bloodstream with the baby at that point anyway. A glass of wine will not harm your baby.
I found it less stressful to just have my wine, than to come up with an excuse or worry that someone might be on to me.

Re: How do you deal with . . .
So funny you brought this up. Me and DH just got married a few weeks ago and we went out to dinner with his family last weekend to celebrate our birthdays. My BIL said, look she's drinking alchol, to his wife (which met I wasn't pregnant). I had no idea people would even take notice, now I also need to find a way to avoid drinking wine when I am pregnant without sparking attention.

Re: How do you deal with . . .
i drank occassionally while TTC. the baby doesnt implant or start sharing your bloodstream right away so I dont think it's a big deal.

Re: How do you deal with . . .
Basically everyone around me knew we were TTC - there was no way to hide the fact that I wasn't drinking b/c DH & I go out twice a week and I generally had at least one drink on one of the two nights.
I also found it was easier to say TTC and then hide the first trimester b/c by the time we got PG everyone was already used to me not drinking.

I agree.. I can't change my whole life when I have no idea how long it will take. I know that sounds silly but If I act pregnant every single month the let down is so much worse. I haven't been plastered but I do have a glass or two of wine. I get a little wary when I am like only a few days away from AF.

You could always use antihistamines as the excuse. At this time of year, everybody is suffering from allergies and nobody would question this.

Re: How do you deal with . . .
Oh....I know exactly how you feel and here is what I do:
If at all possible, I just tell them "no thanks" when offered the drink. BUT, If someone offers me a drink, and I don't want anyone to 'suspsect' anything.....I just say "Yes Please," but then immediately afterwards say...."actually, I'd better not; I've been having some tummy issues."
That way, they just assume you have gas or somthing.
Howver, in the last few months I've stopped that. I just have the damn drink. WHen I find out I'm actully PG, or really suspect it.....I'll use the gas tactic.

Re: How do you deal with . . .
don't worry - if you are indeed pg when you drink (and don't know you are), the baby does not even share your bloodstream at that point...I'm not say drink your face off, but if you are out w/ friends on cd17 and drink some wine, then get a bfp on cd28, you don't have to worry that you did any damage. So many people I know have told me that they went out drinking not knowing they were pg and still had perfect babies.....

Same here....I still enjoy a glass of wine or two occasionally and of course I'll stop once I get that BFP....
